the highbeam on my el fairmont ghia has been bugging me for a while now. It still works well, but i noticed one night that there is a difference in light output between the highbeam, and highbeam flasher.
When high beam is on, i get good distance, but there are gaps in the light closer to the car (especially on one side). When i use the flasher, i get the same distance, but better lighting close to the car (all gaps are gone). I have checked that the highbeam and low beam are lighting up together when highbeam is on and they all are. My guess is that the lowbeams are not changing to the highbeam setting when highbeam is on, and are when the flasher is used, they are, but im not entirely certain of the lighting setup on the car. Are there two outputs from the lowbeam lights? as in normal low beam, and then higher output when highbeam is selected? cheers |

...by flasher you mean like flash your high beams to notify coppers on the roads etc?
If that's the case, then high beams use the same bulb as the "flasher". Low beam lights stay on when flashing your high beams or leaving them on. Maybe your flashing high beams too quickly not allowing for power distribution on all globes...car needs to compensate for more power usage.

sorry, it is a confusing question in the first place. I meant that the flasher has more output than the highbeam setting. As in when i hold the flasher on compared to having highbeam selected.

The low beam/high beam bulb has 2 filaments in it, 1 55w the other 65w AFAIK the low beam goes out when you select high beam. You also have 2 other high beam lights next to the normal headlights, these have a 55w single filament bulb. They should be on only with your high beam When you hold on the high beam flash it should light up the same as normal high beam, the switch activates the same circuit
