hi all just having a problem. i replaced plugs, leads, coil pack and air filter and cleaned throttle body on my 94 ef fairmont. problem is that now it is idling at approx 1200 rpm in park and in gear i.e drive at approx 900 rpm. went for a drive on highway got up to 100km then back down to 80 then 70 then pulled to side of road, put in park and revs went to 3000 rpm without foot on accelerator. instantly turned key off, restarted drove home parked in yard placed in park revs wen t to approx 1200. on road car runs fine no hiccups etc.......what could be the problem have checked all vacuum hoses and no leaks got me stumped any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Sticking throttle maybe try some crc around the mechanism (had an eb jam open once)
Also I think a crappy ISC can cause similar issues, try unplugging it and turning the idle up, will tell you whether thats the issue or not.

thanks for the reply 93 eb, i sprayed the throttle and swapped isc from wifes car (which is an el) with mine and no change to mine, isc works fine on hers so have ruled that part out, have checked all vacuum hoses that i can find and they are fine. a friend of mine who is a mechanic told me to remove air intake from throttle body and just infront of the butterfly is the intake hole for the isc he said to slowly cover that with my finger while car is running and he said revs should drop to just about stall, did that no change. did same thing on wifes car and revs dropped now has me stumped thinking i might need to take it to ford to look at.

Reset your base idle with a 0.75mm feeler gauge between the idle stop screw and lever, isc disconnected, ecu in diagnostic mode. 675-725rpm in park is the target range by adusting throttle screw on side of throttle body.
When finished remove the shorting pins the revs should rise to about 800rpm. Turn ign off, plug isc back in, remove feeler gauge. Note: Do this at operating temperature.

check that the vacuum hose is on the map sensor.
when its off it will cause a high idle, and run really rich. |
