Just wondering how much lift people have and how much has been shaved off the head? Thanks in advance

I'm running the CT006845 Camtech cam, has .53" intake lift and .054" exhaust lift with 112lsa and had 50thou shaved off head and using mls gasket. Runs great with no issues apart from slight timing chain rattle, though when I had this setup on my ef fairmont with a new timing chain kit, we're no rattles whatsoever. After cc'ing the chambers and doing the calculations I ended up with 10.75:1 comp ratio, makes a good difference with the bigger cams.

Thats a pretty decent comp ratio for a daily driver you got there. I assume you only run it on 98 RON? Have you ever had any issues with pinging ... especially during hot weather? I've just ordered the same cam for my XR but had planned on running a more conservative comp ratio. Perhaps it can handle more comp that I first thought. Keen to get feedback from other users of this cam.

Yeah only run it on 98, though am planning on converting to E85 over the Xmas break. As far as pinging goes, so far so good, haven't had many hot days yet so only time will tell but no problems yet.
It's a great cam, will not disappoint, though will work much better with a high stall, I am yet to get one, it's on the agenda for the Xmas break also. Though with the stock stall and stock 3.45 diff gears, being an auto and a pre programmed J3, manages 0-100 in about 6.3secs, am yet to take down the 1/4mile, will do that once car is finished. I rate Camtech very highly and would recommend to anyone, great service and a great product.

Would I have issues with valves high fiving pistons with 600 thou lift and my head shaved 30 thou using au mls gasket do you think?

all depends on lift at TDC and ramp rate. talk to your cam grinder

If you are worried ... then measure.
Remove your head, fit the cam and measure how far the valves protrude from the face of the head at full lift. Measure the deck height of your pistons, measure the compressed thickness of an AU gasket and then work out your valve to piston clearance from that. The only safe way to do it ... guessing can lead to bent bits.

That way wont work. At full lift the valves WILL hit the piston at TDC. You need lift at TDC and how fast/slow the valves are going to move (ramp rate)

What ever happened to some playdough and a socket wrench?
If there's not enough room you get the pistons fly cut. |
