So if it is the sender unit how do I replace that. It is not completely out of action which is why I don't automatically think it is wrong. If I drive very nicely it sits about 6 (or 5 (not sure, didnt count the lines)), if I let it idle for a while about 5.8 (or 4.8 (not sure, didnt count the lines)), if i accelerate hard it starts moving up, just about had it on the orange

The sender unit is a small black cylindrical object that screws in to the side of the engine block just underneath the BBM. It meaures the oil pressure and "sends" the info to your dash gauge so you can monitor it. what steady Ed said is right, the sender is located in a b**ch of a place because its right under the BBM. It sticks out at right angles out of the engine block. Its just screwed in ..but very tight (obviously) I think you need a special deep socket which you can buy from bursons to get it off with a normal socket set. Im not sure if this would help but have you tried using a lower oil consistency? just a thought.

You will not get the sender unit off with a socket. You can only get the switch type ones ( for a light only) off with a socket. You need to get a cheap combo spanner & bend it at the right place, so as to get at the nut at the base of the sender unit. You can't see the nut part. Its been a while since I've changed one, but I think it was 17 or 19mm.

How big does it look? If its small and a dark colour like black, and the nut bit looks to be 15/16" or 24mm, could even be 27mm. Thats a switch type. If its a gold/silver colour and about 2" long & 1&1/4" in diameter, then its the guage type. This all changed with the AU's.

A lot of the factory gauges on the E-series are way out, with a new sender i've has a couple that sit on the second line, and it had 60psi... Dont trust what the gauge says.

I mentioned that earlier, and I got paid out. Like I said, you don't see the V8 Supercar guys using the original guages, eh?

Well this is what's happening with mine too for about 5 mins driving and then suddenly it will go back to normal. On start up at idle needle is close to the top orange/red part. after about 5 minutes driving, car gets warm, on idle it sits close to the bottom orange/red part.
But always happens after I start the car even if the car is already warm. anyways I also blame the sender. Good luck checking the pressure. phong =P~

ASt idle the needel will always sit ion the lower part phong. Thats coz your idleing at about 600-700rpm and there is not enough oil been pumped through to riase the pressure. at idle give the hrottle a tap and it will raise and drop back down.

i think i am having a similar problem. my oil pressure gauge is way past the red part on the guage. could this be a faulty sender?

Sure you are using a sender and not a switch? |
