mum just bought one for the windows so i figured i may as well used it on the ol' beast as well. it's a pretty high powered one though, so is there anywhere on the car that's a no-no when it comes to using these things? i was planning to spray around the engine bay - obviously the battery is one to miss. also, u can use these things to clean the wheels can't u? cheers.

Yeah you can clean the wheels. I did mine today with the good ol high pressure cleaner. I got a Karcher or something like that.
1500psi of tar, bug, dirt, bird s**t, brake dust removing power Just keep it away from electrical stuff in the engine and only use it when the engine is cold. |

away from the electrics, i.e. dizzy coil pack coil etc, i learnt the hard way got some water on the coil and $60 later all good.

I suggest not using it on the paintwork.
My clearcoat is missing in patches and is slowly peeling away. I am probably looking at a respray to fix this issue.

u should have a gentle and turbo head, the turbo for ours peels away paint and s**t like anythin where as the gentle is just a flat spray, and don't go to close on the paint keep it at a distance

if you have just been for a drive give it time for the brake discs to cool down properly and also open the bonet and let things like the exhaust manifold/extractors cool down so that they dont crack.

Nothing wrong with using them on your car; i have done so for over 12months with no probs.
Be sensible, is u get too close and you have a stone chip or something it will lift paint for sure if your close; if not it will be fine - go for it. I used mine to remove pin striping off my old fairlane actually, at close range it took it off instantly and didnt harm the paint work at all. Same deal with rims, if theres a clear coat on your rims and you got a scratch or imperfection on the surface, there will be a possibility of the clear coat flaking off - not good. Be sensible n dont do it too close to the surface, you'll be fine.

Or was it already stuffed? A high pressure cleaner should be ok on paintwork as long as you don't get to close with it. My Neighbour is a panel beater and he is always cleaning his cars with one. His cleaner is a industral one and is much more powerful than the usual home machines.

There was nothing wrong with my paintwork before I 'cleaned' it.
Actually, I used a high-pressured fire hose. My clearcoat is only destroyed in patches (that are slowly getting bigger).

I use a 13hp, 3650psi high pressure industrial petrol powered cleaner for work, I also use it to clean the ute once in a while. one thing you gotta look out for is aiming it to close to plastic bumper or paint work.
I found out the hard way when I was cleaning the plastic tray lining on my XLS ute. I lost my footing while climping on the ute, I used the lance to balance myself but while doing so I burnt a norrow thin line on the hard plastic lining that I could see my left rear shock. if you have a adjustable lance, use it to lower the pressure when cleaning the engine bay and around the body work. if not, keep a distance of one or more metre's away. {nozzle to target} buy some WD-40 if you're going to clean your engine. make sure you give all electric wires or anything the looks electrical a good spray. I usually spray the whole engine bay with it. It gives it that fresh out of the factory look. "nice"
