But if I use no tube as soon as I push wont the Allen key just keep pushing until it hits the end of the retainer ?
I'll give it a go, what I can't understand is my chain was loose and the pressure never took the slack up

Just need to put the allen key far enough into the tensioner hole to get a decent grip, then turn.
A little bit of pressure, it will release. |

And I was more concerned you seemed to be spinning the engine back and forwards and confusing the possible problem because of what was happening with the chain and it doing something it wasn't designed to do. lol. so i made one mistake. s**t the world is gunna end

Got the chain at perfect tension, it moves bout 1-2mm. I can wriggle it when it's on the cam gear back and forth, much better than before, turns out I was using a 2mm or 2.5 mm Allen key
So I grabbed a 3mm and bit of tube and got it first go, just hope I havnt damaged my engine, Anyways got my j3 chip back so I'll whack that in and take her for a spin Thanks for the help

Bad news the noise is back , but I'm certain it's not the chain, it sounds like it's coming from the belt tensioner , I think one of the pulleys bearings must be gone

I have had to change 2 already (had 2 spare second hands...should really get a new one). If it's the same noise, most likely still chain.

Well I noticed my oil was a tad low so I topped it up and now the noise has gone.
And yes it was the same noise as before, it's so confusing, my chain is too loose = noise , too tight =no noise and good tension =noise then topped up with oil noise gone, lol Hopefully its gone for good

Thanks mate. I hope the noise doesn't return, maybe oil couldn't get to the tensioner and topping it up helped it?
Any advice on more mods I could do with the 977b excluding headwork? Of all the mods I've done I havnt really noticed a great deal of power difference except that I have more up top and down low is a bit laggy, I think it's time for some head work lol
