If you are a d**k cabbie, you get in and bounce off the limiter down your driveway. They replace head gaskets one after the other. Or there are good cabbies who care for their cars, and treat them nicer. They are just delaying the inevitable.
remember cabs are always at working temp so don't have the same kind of cold/hot life of normal cars so things don't wear in the same amt of k's. |

i read in the news paper few yrs ago when i was up at bribie island of a taxi that did 1.5mil. it was a ef or el and had the trans rebuilt twice and there was mention of headgaskets. on lpg they hold up well enough if looked after as per manual or better

Yep my fairlane has 1,078,000 kms while my cab has only got 580,000kms. The lane has had one engine rebuild and at leeast 1 box and diff while the cab has had no engine rebuilds apart from a rear main seal, 2 boxes and 2 diffs. For those that have seen the fairlane it does not look like a high mileage vehicle in any way. |

Well, i have an EB I s-pak. I've treated it like s**t for the past two years, last night i was having a bit of fun with a gravel pit . Its a 3.9 MPEFI, on LPG, original engine, tranny and diff, idles nicely the other day i pulled about two tonne on the toe ball. She does blow a little bit of smoke at start up and theres a bit of ticking, other than that shes fine. At this very moment shes sitting on 399 989. Today i'm gonna get my friend to video-tape the odo tick over.

You guys are embarrassing..." ive seen this or my mates got that". just admit that its YOUR car that has so many km on it. you tried to pinch a few pennys and bought an ex cab, then you post up a few threads on how to fix everything because its falling apart.
Sometimes penny pinching doesnt work, its better to pay a few bob more and get a lower km model. some people just dont think things through

Wow, there's no shame in haveing a car with stacks of miles on the clock or buying a second hand cab to save money. I'd say people who do that really have thought it through. If you buy a cab for $700, drive it to the death in two years time and buy a new one, you save a fair bit, especially if you decide to crash it. Instead of your brand new $35,000 BFII, you can crash a rubbish old EL/AU. Makes sense to me. Besides, for the few extra bucks to fix/clean an old cab up, all you are going to get it a dash mat, mudspats and weathershields for your brand new car.

Can someone award this guy the most ridiculous comment of the year? what about all the times your car will brake down on the side of a highway in 35 degrees swltering heat. then you will wish you spent the extra bob on a lower km car.
Next time im driving down the highway and see you broken down, ill launch a few eggs at you and maybe hang my a*** out the window. How can you day get any better?

If what you are saying is true, all you are doing is delaying the inevitable. How constructive. You'll look like a f**k, an egg will land 40 metres in front of my car, it will still be broken down, and you still own a Holden. I guess the egg is on your face. |
