I got about 600KM on half a tank driving from Canberra to Wollongong and back. Filled up with premium unleaded.

That was before i put my custom exhaust on. Now it's about 500KM per half highway milage.

In all I reckon i can get close to 800Km highway mileage drving about 120-130 KPH

i have also owned a 96 NF V8 fairlane and on long trips i could manage between 780km to 840km..Bloody good car on fuel for a V8.And around town would average around 450 to 550 depending on driving scenery.

When I bought the car and drove it back from Adelaide I got about 750 to the first tank before I started panicking cause there wasn't another town for 30 kms and was close to empty. Made it to the next servo and filled up again. Cost $110 all up the drive back from Adelaide on premium, pretty good really. These days the average is closer to 650 on the hwy, 450-500 around town and average use of 13.5l/100kms.

That's with 3.73 diff gears and 5 speed :D

I cant understand how 2 cars that are the same, 1 can get 870 out of a tank whilst another 460 ><

Not the same car...one is an EL Wagon with a 72L tank...and the EF is a Sedan with a 68L tank. :P not to mention 460 around town and 870 on the highway :P thought i'd be picky

Anyways I have been in Sydney the last day...drove from Aulbury/Wodonga to Sydney and I had about 2/5 of a tank left...so about 15 - 20L left. That was 560km worth on premium...trip read 9.5L/100km. I say about 700km out of the tank if I was to run it dry.

phong =P~

Recently got 130k out of 24L around town
Works out to around 370k out of a full tank.

18.5L/100km? How can it be this bad?

It could be that bad if you're giving the thing a caining. If not, then i wouldn't be very happy at all.
The Old Man's EL Ghia, used to get over 800km's of just hwy driving, always with the air-con on, and car loaded up for a holiday.

I drove to Brisbane from Sydney I got to Ballina Approx 775km and the gauge was between 1/4 and empty. This was in my 95 ef futura. The falcon is a very good highway car and will sit on 120km/h all day.

With my DEV5 kit, auto and 3.45LSD and heavy ghia, i get about 350 to 450 in the city. (15 to 18ltrs/100km)

With it standard except for exhaust, i got 400 to 475 (14.5 to 15.5ltrs/100km)

with simmilar driving styles

the DEV5 actually uses 'less' fuel, BUT THE MOMENT U PUT UR FOOT DOWN - -ZOOOOMMMM and bye bye fuel - :D:D:D:D:D:D

like i care.... :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

dont for get EL ghias have the same ecu, engine, diff, fuel reg etc as a XR6

but as for the topic of this post - hwy figures

it does the same as before, about 7 to 9 ltr per 100km

I got about 680k's on the highway and 450 around town in my ED, and i dont drive it lightly as Fairmont XR6 can agree with from thursday night, but i can see why you dont get good economy man

hey guys just wanted to see what sorta fuel econ ppl get on hwy driving.

just got back to day from kalbarri in wa back to perth.
filled up in geraldton made it back to perth 415k's and shes only used a tad over a 1/4 of a tank. thats sitting on about 110 - 150 when overtaking .

figgured that was pretty sweet specialy with the boot full ,the rear seat full and 2 ppl in the car

by th way the car is a eb falcon with t5 running a el hybrid motor recently rebulit over xmas. head slightly ported. with paceys high flow cat 2.5' zorst. 1 bad thing did happen on the way up. i blew a huge hole in the muffler. which was still there on the way home gotta get it fixed. oh and she got a 3:27 lsd in it.

btw trip and kalbarri is awsom

I have driven that section of road (Brand Highway ) many times in my XH I 6 5 speed. So many wide open spaces . Wind is a big factor. You get a tail wind...great economy..albeit a bit false...you get a head wind...Ouch !!!

ok.....well my first car a 250 crossflow XC falcon 3 sp auto with exhaust was lucky to get to 400km on one tank driving like miss daisy...

THen I had the Ea fairmont 3.9 cpi 3 speed auto aswell would nearly get 500km....

Then the EF 4lt auto wagon would get past 700km very economic.....

The Ea 5sp spack Mpi was very good also getting around 650km...

And last but not least my beloved xr6 5sp will get very just past 600km mark but on petrol & since put on gas around 450-500km on 68lts depending which servo which isn't too bad...

The Ea Fairmont is now my dads which i passed on to himh after a mate crashed it & just revived it into new life :) We just did the conversion from cfi to mpi last wkend so should be interesting what the new figures will be for it!

my old CFI EA get 11L/100 on the highway
And in my old EF with a full tank of 98octane i did 700 odd ks driving like a kitten and sitting on 110 on the hume to and from eppalock, and then from there to geelong one weekend... however, it was dry when i pulled into the servo... hurts the wallet...

funny u mention the tank sizes... i usually get 72-74L in my ef when i run it to empty, the car was owned by a fire department, not sure if its got a bigger tank or something, maybe it was a option on gov vehicles :S
