Hi guys, got a problem on my EF.
There is a hissing sound coming out near the glovebox? It continues after the car is turned off for about 5 seconds and when i accerlate it gets louder. Could this be the reason why my car has lacked power and fuel eco? Cheers all! |

it *could* be.
any vacume leak could have running effects on your car due to incorrect vacumme readings. saying that, it may not be large enough to have a noticable effect.

if it's an aircon leak your aircon probaly won't work and you'd end up with a power increase - it might be hot but |

I got the same in my car, except it only seems to happen when the air con is on, so I assume it's an air con issue.
I asked a friend of mine about it whos a fridgie and air con mechanic (domestic and commercial, not automotive mind you) and he seemed to think it was a worn valve of some sort, can't remember the name. But basically he said the noise will be annoying but my air con shouldn't die anytime soon. I haven't confirmed this or fixed it yet, but there's another angle for you to think about. EDIT: Come to think of it, my fuel econ is s**t. Usually a little over 500Km's a tank.

Did he say the T-X Valve?? And when you turn on the air con, and that hissin noise comes from underneath the glovebox, it means that your system is either out of, or extremely low on gas. For that to happen, you would have a leak somewhere. And yes, I DO work with automotive aircon everyday. The only other thing it would be, is the fan in there. But that would be more of a "ticking" noise.

And it's held in by a self tapper - remove it and you should be able to pull the whole connector out a bit to check behind it as well.
