Hit a poor old wombat near Flowerdale [Vic] tonight, he decided to cross the road at the same time he came into view of my headlights... first thing I did was check him, but no go. Hopefully it was a swift and painless way to go...

Now to the car.

I have an AUIII Fairmont. The two L shaped plastic inserts/covers at the front of the bumper have popped out, the bumper itself is sagging on the passenger side, the wheel well cover (in 2 or 3 pieces) got ripped out and ended up by the side of the road, and there was another section hanging from the bumper which would have probably fouled the wheel when I wanted to turn the car. There's also a device between the wheel well and bumper which has had one of its hoses severed. It makes a pretty nasty hissing sound with the engine on... so what is it? I seem to remember something about a purge canister for emissions control being there, or is that BEHIND the wheel? I've noticed the engine is idling a little faster, presumably because it's losing vaccuum.

Just curious what the device is?

Charcoal canister, get a new one from the wreckers and all should be good.

I'm guessing this is the solenoid rather than the canister? The line comes from the device with the circular grey cap, that has electrics going into it, not the bigger box behind it. Looks like it had a barb which snapped off.

I'd say this will be an insurance job since there's some minor body damage as well...

Anyway, thanks for confirming what it is! :D

I have a felling it might be see if you can hang the canister back up the top on it's mount, and hell mines taped on one of the hoses, if you want to get fancy you can always used black electric tape but any colour should do.

Not sure how hard it would be to change the line on an au, but i had a look at the ef and said to myself f**k this, tape will do, those hoses are a very tight fit.

I wouldn't stress to much though mine ran alright without one for a few weeks till I sorted it.
