ive been looking at this hm gem engines and they seem to be realy profesional so i gave them a call and asked how much for a ef xr6 long motor and they said $ 2,400 this comes with a 1 year warrenty or a extended with a fee three year unlimited km warrenty. i asked what happens if i put a aftermarket exhaust and cold air induction system they said its fine so im happy. now my question is has any one got one of these engine heard anything about these guys anything that is good or bad? |

well HM Gem are ok, just dont pull em apart again ever, the whack em together from what I have seen, when stripping a few at the wreckers for parts, stripped bolts/holes were not un common.

i had a HM gem rebuilt motor with all the race rebuild components in my ea and i was not impressed with it considering it cost me a fair bit more than the stock rebuilt motor, it only had like 25kw more. and i had quite a few problems with it...

I did a bit of research into these for my old EB.
They dont seem too bad but as mentioned above, they do have some occasional quality issues as with any mass produced item I guess. If I hadnt of sold the car I probably would have done it with them. Quick turn around, no waiting weeks for a rebuild, + warranty (Dont know how good they are at honouring it though, no one I spoke to needed it).

Sorry guys - but these engines are rubbish (and I am speaking from experience, and not just my own).
The one that was in my car when I bought it died with 60,000k's on the clock and when I pulled it down it was in a sad state. Broken timing guides, blown head gasket, questionable head bolts, the list goes on. Believe it or not this engine was well looked after! Maybe not all as bad as mine, but keep in mind that these are "mass produced" with little attention paid to clearances and torque settings.

I would rather pay a smaller shop to do the work at a few more dollars, and in fact I alwasy have, and I can see the money has been worth it, as the engines have never been an issue.

Read through this thread. From what Ive heard ITS engines are good value for money and prices including fitting.

The mass production line reco engine mobs are OK most of the time but if you really like your falcon and are going to keep it for a while you would be way better off going to a small engine builder who you can talk to and who will build it up for you to your spec. People like ITS can't be as fast but it would pay you to rent a ruffy for a week and get a job done properly by a smaller specialist because they take care and take pride in their work.
I used to rebuild Mazda engines rotaries and buy in GEM reco piston engines and for stock engines GEM were fine I only had one come back in four years of business and that was a guy who refused to get a new radiator or hoses on the fitting because we didn't quote that on the install and then came back with a knock in the engine and new hoes on his old stuffed radiator and they still fixed it. We didn't tell them too much about the install of course we backed the customer anyway. |

Doesn't ITS do swap over. You buy stage X motor, they give you it, take yours (changeover). So only a day???
