I just got a quote on a new exhaust system for my EL 6, and was quoted for a HM system. Does anyone have one of these, or can recommend them?
I know I can get a cheaper system, but if there are huge power advantages, I don't mind spending the extra $$$. I was initially thinking of Pacmaker comp series or JMM headers, and a Redback system, what would you guys recommend?

I know the HM Headers for the I6 with the built in hi flow cat converter retail for $1,200!

Their systems are great on Gen 3's. $1200! What a rort! That price makes DiFillipo's and JMM Race Series look cheap! My Pacey Comps, Magnaflow Hi-Flow Cat and Lukey Mandrel System came in under $1200.

The standard ones (without the cat) were either 600 or 800, cant' remember. Personally, there was just something about them that i idn't like. I coulkd of got them through work for cheaper than the pacie comps, but i went the comps, jsut a feeling.

Are we talking about HM, or HMS (Herrod Motorsport)?
If i were looking at extractors, i'd have to look into it more. Rather than going for the tuned length, such as the Pacey Comps, and JMM Race Headers. Here's something for you to think about: Quote: All our headers are Interference design or T.Y. which are best suited for standard or mildly modified engines revving up to 6,500 RPM. This design gives much higher torque and horsepower figures than tuned type which work well in the mid to high rev range, e.g. 5,000 to 9,000 RPM.
It depends where you want your power. Acceleration wise, it looks like T.Y. should be the go. If you want more upper power, a tuned length is what your after. Pacemaker do make a T.Y. setup for the 4L, 4499. However, the 4480 (Comps), seem to sell better, and probably make more power than the 4499s, but only over 120km/h. Advance Headers make T.Y. headers for the 4L. JMM make T.Y. aka Scavenger headers (I think) and a tuned length. For overall performance, probably a tuned length would be the go, and will pull better 1/4 mile results.

because of the long primaries the comps also increase low down power aswell. |

Mick Webb at SVO uses HM Headers. 'Nuff said. Sure they are on the expensive side but they're quality. Cost me $1800 but that's for a 5.0 litre...

Excellent extractors for 8s, for an I6 I'd have no idea. Perhaps you can be the test subject.

I had HM Headers on my XF and definetly felt power increase after the install. Back then the price for the item and fitting was a little over $500.
I now have Pacemakers & Redback exhaust on my Ghia and am also very happy with them too. Of course, they are off the shelf items and if you want to go the extra mile for performance and sound then have a custom install done if you have the money.
