G'day all.
I'm in the processof hoisting my engine out and i've hit a brick wall...

Everything is undone, fuel lines, vacuum hoses starter motor and even the 4 bolts holding the T5 bellhousing to the engine. Also the pins that go through the bottom of the engine mounts(they go from front to back of the car) have been removed.

Now, here's my problem, I can't hoist the engine up enough for it to clear where the mounts lock into place. The engine gets caught on the firewall and pulls the car up.

Now, what have I missed? I've never done this before in any car so it could be something small. Basically, i can't get the engine to separate from the tranny and i can't pull it forward to do that because of the mounts.

Some one please help me out. If you're in perth I will pay you in beer if you manage to do it (that means coming over and doing it not telling me how!)

Any advice appreciated.

K, i'll assume youve removed the bonnet. Have u tried lifting the engine out on an angle? ie: hoist up the front 30 degrees or so and then begin to apply tension to the back part of it.

The point is that the engine must be lifted straight up due to the design of the mounts. I'm going to try to get around this by pulling the mounts off their L brackets using a bigbreaker bar.

on all the eseries, i lift from the front part of the motor, with the box attatched, the mounts have a bit of play in them to allow for the angle, havnt busted one mount yet and have done it about 8 times now, did it just this weekend gone actually

Dont forget dont get scared gotta be little ruff to get the motor out so should come out and up with little shake :evil:

try unbolting the brakets from the block itself then it would be a straight lift out right?

don't you have to seperate the clutch or torque converter from the fly/drive plate? not just the transmission to engine bolts.

yea forgot to ad that part, dont be scared to give them a good shove to dislodge them, also when going back in the shoving action helps alot aswell

well you can't take the clutch off befor you take the engine/ or gearbox out.

you can leave the converter on it will come off the front of the box but will make a mess

yeah thats it,,so unless he's removed which ever one it is it aint a cummin out.

it's lifting up cause it's trying to take the transmission with it.

unless you wanna take the transmission with the motor it must be completely unbolted from the back of motor.

it just needs to be moved backwards away from the motor.

with the manual you can leave the clutch attached,but you need to move the box back a bit so the input shaft is not holding on to clutch plate..

with an auto the torque converter must be unbolted from the drive plate

no it doesn't have to be, but it's cleaner that way.



guy just double check you have all the bolts out.. silly i know but it does happen

support the gear box with a jack.( lift it slightly at the front)

and when you set the engine one th lift chain have it lift slightly more the front of the engine.

dont be scared to be rough
