THe other day I noticed my cars Temp gauge was mving up faster then my Tacho, so I though thats a bad sign right there.
But then on the open road it is fine, It runs normalish. Then I filled the radiator up and there was no sign of leaks or anything. I got to bendigo and I had no water in my radiator again. I didnt overheat, but it did go beyond Hot. I didnt loose any power and there were no signs of vapour pouring from under the hood. Could it be that my radiator is gone or is it something much much worse

Could be any number of things, head gasket, hoses, radiator core.
I presonally hads a similar thing, but it wasnt loosing water as quickly or overheating, and the o rings in the side of the radiator were shagged!! Cost $270 to get the core celaned and new side tanks and o rings and stuff, as opposed to the $1400 i was told to do the head gasket!! |

Wouldnt you notice the power loss if the head gasket was shot.
I am hoping for a radiator, all the hoses are nice and soft with no splits. I think I am hoping for anything other then a Head. How did you find out it was your O-rings, was it a good machanic who didnt s**t you, or just your own investigation?

If theres no sign of any leaks and your loosing coolant, then its either going out the exhaust pipe (head problems) or its overpressurizing and blowing it out the radiator cap!
Check over the whole engine again for signs of coolant leaks, including under each manifold. Strap a small coke bottle to the overflow pipe, then after a drive see if there is any coolant inside it.

also check your water pump bearing, mine started having the same symptoms as yours and turned out it was flowing out from there, couldnt see it very easily as it started leaking underneath, worth a shot

I will thanks for that.
I think I will give anything a shot before I start pulling the engine right apart.

He was doing a pressure test on it for me. and went to go do some other things and got held up (lol) and when he came back there was just a bit of water under the radiator. He traced it back and found that this was where it came from. |

Still it proves that some coolant is coming out of the cap, now you need to find out why. First start with a new cap.

OK It was the head gasket with a leak, so the next question, what can it cost to fix up the head gasket??

Oh man, thats a shame to hear.
When i was looking at a new head gasket, i was quoted between 800 and 1400 for an identical job. Shop around |

Do it yourself for under $400 easily.
That money would include beer for the whole time you'd be doing it. Its an easy job, just tedious. My head gasket change cost me ~$550 and that includes a port and polish.

I have a feeling this is out of the depth of Knowledge though. Also would being the older 3.9EFI make it any harder or easier to do yourself?
Also I dont have the greatest tools to do it, only a couple of spanners and sockets, nothing really to pride myself on really............Does that make me less of a man.....*sobbing in the corner*
