Just bought an EA on Wednesday and she's got few problems that needs to be sorted
First off she blew loads of black smoke and was EXTREMELY slow so thought ohhh well she's been sitting for ages so maybe good run will fix it, well it didn't and ran like a bucket and cost me $50 in fuel for 100km use (not happy jan ) So anyway last night i pulled all plugs out and did compression check and she's running 170+ across the board so relatively good here, also thought i'd check cam timing whilst i was at it and this is all good also so motor is in relatively healthy condition so ruled out engine conversion lol Then comes today, after taking me nearly 5 mins to get car started i went to have look at a house around 10km from where i live and when i got back into car to leave she started and idled for few seconds and then just stopped, just turned over but didn't kick at all Anyway after tracing back few things i came to conclusion we have no spark so i went and bought new rotor button, dizzy cap and coil from autobarn (and new MAP sensor to hopefully fix fuel problem) and installed but still no spark So now been told that maybe the TPI module or something in the dizzy, anyone care to comment on this? Also wondering if it would pay to replace the oxygen sensor to help solve the running rich problem whilst i'm at it Going to autobarn in morning to get rest of gear needed to try and get this thing running right so any help tonight will be extremely appreciated as want to just get this thing running right as need it to go to work again on Tuesday Thanks

ill ask my brother about this one he had the exact same problem two weeks ago with an ed he bought.
he did: leads, rotor buttton, dizzy cap, and coil. This didnt fix it. I think the problem was the injectors but ill have to check with him. Ill let you know in a few minutes.

just spoke to him and he said it was the loom plug that goes to the dizzy had one of the pins corroded.
so pull everything off the dizzy and make sure to contacts are clean. hope that is all it is.

Sounds like a crook tpi module as far as spark goes.
Running rich usually indicates a o2 sensor problem.

ISQUIK - Thanks for that i'll have look at all plugs and connectors whilst i'm at it tomorrow
Leroy - I bought a brand new coil and installed this so coil is fine, has power getting to coil when turn ignition on as checked this with multimeter, coil lead is bit sus though and will be replacing this tomorrow rushed - i hope the map sensor fixes fuel problem also, if it doesn't i'll need to rip out injectors etc and have them reco'd so hoping i don't have to go this far

After reading service manual i have come to conclusion that the TFI has gone bye bye as there is power getting to the coil but nothing out so definately something wrong from TFI end
Will be putting new one in tomorrow so let yas know if this was problem

Not good - still not running I replaced the TFI today and still no spark, i have run continuity tests from the ECU plug to the TFI plug and everything seems to be fine and so to is the coils wiring so either i have blown the new coil i installed before replacing the TFI module or the ECU is screwed I am also checking the dizzy out tonight to make sure the PIP system is working properly as might not be sending signal out to the ECU to tell the coil when to spark All fun and games but i tell ya my patience is starting to run REALLY thin with it

UPDATE
Well i have the car running again, the stator had decided to say bye bye so ended up buying brand new dizzy and fitted this today Still runs lil rough though and really chugs out the black smoke so the map sensor didn't fix this problem Taking to ford tomorrow to hopefully get serviced as i've had enough

Well took car to ford this morning and she's still there, they can't seem to find what's wrong with the car
They think it might be a wiring problem and i might need to source new loom for engine bay, hopefully they will find something wrong tomorrow though as i don't really want to go through dramas of fitting new engine loom

For the overfueling, have you changed the O2 sensor?
