how do you get around the limitations of the search engine?

as you can see from the post title im trying to find info on putting an EL ecu into an ED

You can also read BenJs build thread in the 'Garage", he uses an EL ECU in an EB, with BBM though.

I don't use the inbuilt search engine, it's pretty lame..

go to google, click on advanced search and tell it to only search on fordmods.com

works great.

As for the conversion, I recently did mine.. put in smartlock bypass (which you probably don't have to do) and bypassed Auto controls (EL auto ECU)

I got most of the info from the link mentioned already... just made some other notes here and there and off I went, it was surprisingly easy.
