yea it can double or sometimes even triple! the best config i have seen is all valves on the inlet side and none on the exhaust side

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or are seriously mis informed but....
If you are talking the Ford I6 before the B series then your head has 12 valves, 2 per cylinder. One for intake one for exhaust. There was an outrageously expensive upgrade head that was double overhead cam and that was probably 24 valves (but I am not sure). If your car came with 12 valves it would be nigh on impossible to add more valves as you would need to weld up not only valve guides but also the ports, etc, then try and get the new smaller valves to align with the cam....It would be impossible. Some cars come stock with 3, 4 or 5 valves per cylinder. This means you would have say 2 intake valve to one exhaust valve, etc. You ALWAYS need at least one intake and one exhaust valve. The theory behind multiple smaller valves is a higher velocity, you can stagger the opening/closing times to get better swirl, etc and you can get a larger overall intake/exhaust flow as the smaller valve can 'fit' better in the head so you can cram more in there. Hope this clears it up a little bit. cheers Scott

You lol! My cars got at least 17 valves that I am aware of, 12 in the head, 5 in the tyres... Last edited by twr7cx on Mon Mar 05, 2007 9:37 am, edited 1 time in total. |
