how much should it cost to get a head put back on and timing chain guard replaced and timing done on an ef motor? i dont want to get ripped off

Could quite easily range from 3/4 to a full day job, depending who is doing it.
But I would say 4 to 6 hours for the complete job. So it depends on what the workshops charge rate is then. |

its the top guide, i have the head, gasket and bolts. theyre charging 65 dollars an hour

Either way, you still have to remove the timing cover...
Which means all belts and idler pullys/brackers off, alternator off, balancer off, drop sump (and oil too of they want to do it that way), timing cover off, time engine, fit new guides, replace chain. Then put it all back together. Then put the head on and all the manifolds. Its not a difficult job, just time consuming because of the tight space allowed in the front of the engine for a chain swap. If its an EA-ED, then the radiator generally has to come out as well to fit the balancer puller on. |

you dont have to drop the sump to do a timing cover. it can be done with it still in place.. but yeah the rest of the gear needs to come off.
