Seriously, i know what you want to achieve.
The cheapest and most effictive system (in my opinion) is. Standard exhaust manifold (don't change) 2.5 inch catalytic converter (bolts on to the manifold) 2.5 inch exhaust. AUIII XR8 inlet snorkel. This should give you the sound you want (but will also be quite quiet off the throttle) and will only cost you about 500-600 all up. The exhaust note itself is affected by the internal workings of the engine. This is why an xr6 will sound different to a std 6 as the larger valves and greater clearences alter the acoustics.

Closest you could come is to get a stock iron head crossflow 6 cyl, occasionally when hearing it idle some people who are not car people and couldn't tell a Subaru from a Ford without a badge to show them which is which mistake my 4.1L / 250ci iron head 6 pot for a V8, hahaha, I wish, it's a 100% stock iron head 6 cyl setup! http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=0yEViiOoIUw if you want to hear it for yourself, but it was still cold when I took that video so the choke was still on a bit and that's why it's idling a little fast. |

2.5 inch catalytic converter (bolts on to the manifold) . f**k that extractors on a 6 cylinder are the only thing that make them sound the slightest bit cool. cat back with stock manifold sounds worse. i previously had extractors and a 2.5 inch with a stock cat converter and i liked the sound. then the time came when i needed the cat replaced so i bought a high flow one and it doesnt sound as good at all. high flow cats are a crock of s**t on stock cars dont waste your money
