to thick of an engine oil will cause poor feul economy.
a failing coil pack delivering poor spark will also under inflated tyres carbon build up on the valves and ports lead foot |

Spark plugs are like 3 bucks each and need to be changed reguarly, instead of buying something to test them BUY NEW ONES! A. it's probably cheaper and b. you'll be needing new ones reguarly anyways!
For the leads, you can test the resistance of them to see the condition, also look at the physical conditionof them. |

first thing i did when i picked mine up was reset the new plug/leads you dont know HOW long theyve been in there.
try reseting the computer aswell, very simple to do, take the battery out for a while, while you wait put in the new plugs/leads. P.S. what is the correct gap for the XR6. |

PRetty sure it's 1.1mm, but you can get onto the NGK website and check! As for removing the battery, why go to that much effort, just disconect it, much easier (you'd have to do that anyways to remove it - but the act of removing the battery does nothing further, it's disconnecting it that cuts the power and lets the electronics reset themselves). |

from ngk site
Your Vehicle: Ford Falcon EF 4.0L 6 Cyl., Tickford, XR6 Spark Plug Part No. Plug Gap Recommended Plug ZGR6B-11 1.1 might as well spash out and get some new plugs |

The ZGR6B-11 plugs are recommended in the NGK book for 6 cylinder vehicles equipped with gas.
Unless between the most recent printing of the book and the last website update the NGK people have decided the Z plug is a more suitable plug, the EF/EL should use a B plug. I think it's a BPR6ES-11 or just BPR6E-11 I'll check at work tomorrow. I know the Z plug is recommended for XF-ED models on gas that would normally use a BRE27Y-11 when on unleaded.

check oxy sensor on exhaust. not sure how to check it but if its bung then it will run rich. no harm in doing plugs and other basic service things but you aren't going to pick up another 100 - 200km per tank from having good plugs.
you should be upwards of 500km/tank depending on driving style and traffic conditions.

i did'nt even bother checking mine i just replaced it. i took it to like some mechanics and they charged me 100 bucks and told me it was running rich; which i already knew thats why i took it there. i asked if a new sensor would fix the problem, they said the rich fuel would come through and burn it out!!! i replaced it any way and that fixed up the problem, atm i'm trying to loosen the dizzy retainer so i can do some timming!

You can use a megger to test the resistance of the leads...
My EF xr6 has motorcraft leads... what are the chances they are the original leads?? its done 180000km... |
