Hey all,
I have an AU2 Futura (no LPG, not IRS model). 2.5" Lukey exhaust with single muffler and it sounds VERY nice however I'm wanting more of a V8 tone or a deeper, burblier tone... possibly a better noise when the pedal kisses the flooring... I've been told things from changing mufflers, extractors and headers... I hear Pacemaker Headers are the way to go? Need some advise on what to throw in there, and roughly how much it'll set me back to do so. Cheers, Ky

headers will give more of a tinny sound.
if you have a resonator maybe get that removed, and add a big cam. thats the setup ive got, at idle its very lumpy and loud but give it revs it sounds nothing like a v8 unfortunatley. |

I have heard that does help.... I found that a sports exhaust with factory headers sound worse than when used with headers like 4499's... I got 4499 style headers on mine with no resonator and only one straight thru muffler. Sounds nice and deep and doesn't drone. I like it Removing the cat completely also adds to the "burblier" note... But you didn't hear it from me...

Big cam and a high flowing head should help change the tone. Nice big long extractors will of course then purchased, otherwise you're really not getting your moneys worth

I've got a Redback 2.5" mandrel bent system with 2 mufflers, and found it sounded better and deeper before I put the extractors and hi flow cat in.

Best way would be to fit a V8...

Sorry to burst your bubble, cant make them sound good. Just accept who you are. A donkey can never be a stallion, just say well i have better fuel economy.

If you want that true V8 rumble then I'm afraid you will have to buy yourself a V8 because there really is nothing that compares.

Hmm i've come to that conclusion also.
My old man was revving my engine the other day, trying to figure out why it doesn't sound "throaty". Come to realise I6's cant sound like v8's. But then again, not too sure if its just my engine because ive never heard another I6 with zorst + headers..

Thanks for all the input guys - I was thinkin about throwing a V8 in but not too sure. I'm not worried about fuel costs; fuel is cheap no matter what anyone says. Sure, it has risen in costs recently, but think about it.. $1.20 for a litre of petrol, and when you walk out of woolies you realise a litre of milk cost you $2.00 and a litre of coke cost you $2.29.
Not to mention a litre of grog - set ya back many litres worth of petrol. Then again I'm prob the only stupid person to see things this way Might look into headers/extractors... Who are the best to go to for these? Midas are reasonably good folks when it comes to quality and warranty, but they're pricey too, especially because the independant franchisees get absoloutely robbed off Midas. The more they make, the more Midas get... the more I have to pay. Ky

Hmm nah i dont get the relation with petrol costs and milk I understand the cutting out coke and alcohol....but people need milk dammit!!
Try any of you'r local exhaust placees, and ask them for a set of pacemaker extractors. Might need to get ur cat modded also (not too sure). But look around, dont just stick to one company thinking theyve given u a great deal!

hes exactly right. Play the exhaust shops against each other (especially if there is a few in the same area). You would be surprised how cheaply they can do it. |
