how do u know when a cat is blocked, i boot my car and it just as no power could this be y this is happening???

I remember reading on the net about the use of a vacuum gauge connected too your inlet manifold to diagnose a plugged cat converter. Just google plugged cat vacuum gauge. Hope this helps.

I'd also assume that the car would feel as gutless as a VB Commonbore, meaning it feels like it's lacking power.

Don't you also tap the cat with a rubber mallet and if you hear rattling it's f**k? Provided the honeycomb hasn't melted onto the cat itself.

Might be worth borrowing a cat from someone, even if it's hollowed out, and see if that makes a difference, and if it does, well there's your problem.
If it's as powerful as James May, have you checked that the car Isn't miss fireing, the best way to check this is to take power off to the injector's individually and listen to the engine, if the car idle's rough when you take power off to the injector then you know that cylinder is ok, if you hear no difference when you take power off to the injectors, then you know it's a miss fire, and it won't be the cat that's causing the problem. Hope that helps
