hi
i posted this in the ecu forum but not getting much of a reply so ive posted it here......... i want to run diagnostic on a el ecu that i have fitted to my ea .. because when i put it into self test mode the idle goes up for about 5 seconds like it supose to but after that the idle goes up and down and i cant set the base timing ..when i use the timing light the timing mark will go crazy and you cant get it to stop untill i hold the revs on for about 5 seconds and the timing reads tdc rev it again and it goes to 10 deg and starts going crazy again.. but when its not in self test mode the car runs smooth.. so i tried to conect a test light to the black plug next to the self test plug in the engine bay but nothing happens??? am i doing something wrong??? |

Like I said before, you need to have the EL loom wich incorparates the J port for self test functions, infact I'm suprised it even runs with the EA loom and EL computer.

it runs fine all i had to do was add 3 wire to the ecu plug and it runs ok except that i can seem to be able to run diagnostic on it....

so can anyone help me with this problem??
because its a ea it doesnt have the j port... or if i can find out what ecu pins the j port is conected to and i will wire it in to the ecu??? |

Prob onto something there champ.
EL 60 pin ECU: Pin 48 is the is the self test input - needs to be grounded to initiate the test Pin 17 is the self test output - the +ve output for the LED/multimeter. Not sure what you should use as the ground for either of these tho??? Pins 40, 60 and 16 are grounds to the ECU...

thanks mate
i tried to do a diagnostic on the ea plug in the engine bay but i got nothing. as far as i know the self test input and the output on the eb ecu are the same pin numbers as the el..(not sure about ea though) but for some reason im getting no voltage from the engine bay plug.. but the self test input in the engine bay works when grounded. so i will try to do it from the ecu and see what happens... thanks again..... |

hi....
ok i have given the self test plug in the engine bay a clean and i have got a signal now but the problem is i have no idea on how to get a code number from the sequence of flashes from the led.????(im having a dumb day) i have recorded these wit my phone cam.. can someone please help me translate the led flashes ????? here is a video link.... the first one is key on engine off (koeo) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx the 2nd one is with engine running...but its not verry long... xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx i have redone these tests there are new links in my reply below Last edited by TROYMAN on Sat Dec 23, 2006 12:42 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

OK - firstly, your LED seems to be switching off when it should be switching on - did anyone else notice this?
On that assumption, I counted the following codes for Engine off: 838 AC Evap sensor circuit pault - shorted positive 521 PSPS - steering not turned during test. 791 Electro drive fan 1 fault 792 Electro drive fan 2 fault 786 Performance indicator light fault 7.. video stopped That did not make a whole lot of sense, as I've only ever received codes in numerical order. Also, I don't think 521 should pop up during the engine off test. Key On, Running: 1 - perform goose test now 172 Hego Lean How have you got your LED wired up, as the light output looks inverted, although still seems to be usable. Perhaps you can take the video again, at a greater distance so as not to introduce any glare?

Have just finished my code reader program which should help out a lot of people on here with this same problem. If interested, please check out the post in EEC Fuel system forum

ok
i just did the koeo test again.. my brain is working today lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ac5m1xEfe8 i got these codes 838 521 791 792 786 782 777 778 does that seem right?? and i did a engine running test. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLfnEDZbYJw on this one i think the codes are 172 521 167 116 but im not sure about these ones because i had trouble concentrating on the led.. |

The first set registers as legitimate codes (mostly cooling fan codes), but I can't access the second video to look at them. Regardless, the only code that is legit on the engine running set is 211.

i got the following for the second video:
1 do goose test now ....fast codes.... 116 ECT 172 Hego Lean 521 PSteer not sensed during goose test. 167 no TPS sensed during goose You can easily get rid of the last 2 faults (hopefully) when the light goes OUT for the first time after the engine starts, then comes back on, it pauses for a little while waiting for you to goose the throttle (half quick press and release), and also to turn the steering half a turn either way. Once this is done, you'll see the light flash the fast codes rapidly (don't try counting these), then the ECU will throw out the slow codes (the ones you can read)
