holy crap this is very similar to what happened to mine.
Ex valve snapped at the bottom of the stem and got jammed under the intake valve. This happened under acceleration, but no where near 6000rpm.. maybe 3000rpm? The car had dominated at the last 2 skid pan sessions at 5th Gear Motor Sports a week and 3 weeks prior - where it did hit 6000rpm. Only running a WADE 1636, wonder if it was valves were lifting too high and it weakened? Will be updating my Garage thread very soon.. I ended up getting an ED head and then getting it ported seeing as tho I had to replace it. No bore damage either, but the piston copped a dent or 4. |

Well I'm glad to report that I picked up my rebuilt motor on tuesday morning(finally).
I got Troyman to give me a helping hand in removing the old motor and installing the new motor in the blistering heat in which we had no troubles and was all done in just 4hrs . I finished fitting everything up on wednesday and fired it up late wednesday arvo to discover the distributor was out 1 tooth, so I had the fun job last night of pulling the dizzy out and fitting it in the right spot, took ages to plug the leads back on, fired it up and beauty no leaks or other misshaps . took it for a quick drive no flaws there. I'm glad to be back behind the wheel of something that has balls unlike the Hyundai (rally car) i've been stuck with the past 3 months. Will be going for a another drive this arvo up some hills to bed rings in. |

I'm glad so is the mrs that my car is running again.
kelv_05ef_wagon: to deck/shave the block the timing cover was fitted, set up on mill and set the depth, have no timing chain worries seems to be all ok and the biggest surprise is... CMS3 cam with only 1 shim and no lifter noise. |

Yes there is a timing chain tensioner without one the timing chain would rattle like an anorexic

Kev, the terms for machining the head bottom surface (shaving) and block top surface (decking) are different.
HP had already had his head shaved when he had it built, along with big valves, valve springs and some port and polish work. Most recently, he also had the block decked. This is typically done to ensure the surface of the block is in fact flat. Caution needs to be observed to ensure the pistons don't protrude above the surface of the block. Cheers BenJ
