Hey everyone, (on my late model EL) yesterday after a car wash (no engine wash) i was waiting at an intersection, waited for a good 30seconds, i revved my engine to around 3k, after which the engine started to slow down to 1k (idle) where i then stuck my foot on the clutch and the brake, after 1 second at the engine revving 1k, it launched upto 2k, i looked down in dismay to find neither of my feet touching the accelerator.
So now when i am driving the car doesnt back off properly, it sits on 2k for ten seconds or more and this is going to be a huge problem starting the car if it is going to rev upto 2k 5 seconds before the oil can circulate. Also, even at cruising speeds, the fuel usuage (indicated by the odometer / mechanics diagnotistic menu) has risen from 4-6L's per hundred, to a staggering 18-25L'2 per hundred. Travelling at 100kmph indicates 22-26L per hundred. Which usually sits between 7 and 11L. Water is the concern here, in weeks past i have washed the engine bay, to find for the next few hundred km's for it to run rough, that is you will accelerate and find it 'blips' from acceleration to nothing then back again. Hopefully its just a solenoid or someting cheap and easy. -Ive checked the airbox (modded to suck air in from the front) no water apparent. The spark plug gaps are HUGE, but this has been the case for 2/3 weeks now. FIX HERE: The problem was found at the map sensor, the pipe returning into the runners was lose at the runners end. THanks again Matt

Actually, a week ago when i modded the airtake, which worked a treat mind you, no lag at all and it gets great mid / high revs - Apart from this, i opened the throttlebody and cleaned it with some degreaser, also when i went to start it, it backfired slightly, like a 'fluff' not a 'BANG.
REPORT: The throttlebody is fine Anyway, does anyone else know what else might have caused this. Thanks again Matt

This is on a late model EL.
Idle control: Nah i hadn't touched it, i did yesterday though, its using massive amounts of fuel, on the 'instant fuel usuage' part of the gauge, its showing 98!! Ill check for vacuum leaks, thanks!

Whats the little black sensor thing on the firewall near the windscreen washer bottle?? At work we replaced it on an NA Fairlane that wouldnt idle & also on an EF Falcon that had idling issues. Might be worth a look...

my EF has done it once or twice on a startup. i just grabbed the clutch a tad to bring the revs down and it was fine from then on.

Matt ah, i thought it was the map sen too, till i tried that + 25 other things. it might be that, but be prepared to hunt around for the fix to it for a while. type in MAP in to the search here and there'll be a pic in a previous thread
