Hey guys
Farley new to this forum. I have a 02 ba falcon sedan. I have a custom made catback system on my car at the moment, 2.5" straight threw mandrel bent. I am looking at a set of headers. Im tossing up over the pacemaker 4490's and hurricanes. Both systems come with high flow cats and the extra bit of pipe to bolt straight up to the catback. The pacemakers and hurricanes primary pipe is 44mm the secondary pipe on the hurricanes is 51mm and the pacemakers secondary are 48mm and both systems outlets are 68mm. So witch system is going to be best? Both systems are mandrel bent and 2.5 inch cats. The hurricanes are cheaper then the pacemakers. I have seen some people say hurricanes rob down end power but WHY? Or do they both deliver the same results? Cheers guys. |

Pacemakers rob down low torque to but you benefit top end. I'm pretty sure everyone will say pacemakers are better, i've had them and they go well up top and have a nice note.
As for why they rob it i'm not sure, having a punt i'm guessing a stock manifold has more back pressure so pushes harder, extractors flow better so there for benefit up top, i dunno i'm babbling now. |

The design of the pacemakers, with the pipe over cone construction method are supposed to flow better than other brands extractors that use the same size pipe work.
When i fit pacemaker 4499's to my EB, i had a commy cat & a 2.5 straight thru muffler, and that was it. It was very loud, and lost a bit of torque down low, judging by the way the car pulled from low rev's. I fixed that by adding in a high flow resonator. Overall, power & drive-ability were improved over stock, and so is fuel economy, a little bit.... Cheers ToranaGuy

The 48mm secondaries on the Pacemakers are going to make more torque than the 51mm on the hurricane's!

So how much difference is there actually between the 2? Whats the difference in torque? Would a custom tune after the fitment make the torque the same on both set ups?

To be perfectly honest i see these guyz making extractors and think they are really doing alot of RnD to get them right or do the standard across the board as we have seen with the E series to B series and more than likly F series???
In the US the mustang boys for example have primarys such as 1 5/8, 1 3/4, 1 1/2 and 1 7/8 in all different collector sizes made by different manufacturers, u see some of there designs and know they have put alot of thought into them for a standard to wild engine. Ther arent many wild inline 6 going around and as pacemaker have 2 extractors to choose from they should make 1 extractor more tailered to street cars where they want the most low down torque and power. A well designed extractor can make power from idel to red line with the right diameter pipe & length or primary, secondary and outlet. I personally believe that a 38mm primary does alot better job than the 41mm for bottem end torque and power and the rest of the system can still make the same power as current design, if they get it right. According to the pacemaker website they both have a 41mm primary but the PH4490 have a 48mm appossed to 44mm with the PH4495 http://www.pacemaker.com.au/ford_falcon_6cyl_ba.html I like pacemaker gear as they have a better design and finish on there products Also the hurricane's have a 41mm primary then 51mm secondary and 63 outlet so ill stay away from these for sure.

Why would you stay away from the hurricanes tho? There both the same except for the secondary witch is 3mm bigger on the hurricanes? Can this really make that much of a difference? |

Makes a huge difference if ur a pro racer but for the average jo not really but why not have the best extractor for ur car??? I will try and get threw it all haha. I am just a normal driver. I agree with you when you say why not get the best, Believe me I think my car deserves the best haha. But all I want to do to my car is full exhaust, 20% under drives and a flash tune. Then I will be doing cosmetic mods mainly. I might in time get maybe a bigger throttle body and a blue power air intake box. If I want to go "nuts" in the future and get a charger then I will get the 4495's. I might have a go at a holden at the lights sometimes but nothing TO serious. Am I really going to notice a difference between the pacemakers and the hurricanes? As a every day car driver? Cheers ToranaGuy Nah, they hold the paten for primaries & secondaries so no one else can copy it. maybe on the collector side of things but not on the secondaries so therefore their copy right pipe cone over design is for both.

If you fit the high flow cat straight up against the pacemaker 4499 exit, you gain a bit of the lossed power down low. Most shops will mount the high flow cat about 4-6inchs back from the pacies outlet which will be beneficial up high but will lose power down low. I had a 200cpi magnaflow cat repositioned straight too the pacemaker exit as per (pacemaker website instructions) and the difference down low was noticeable....
