So if mine says FEB 98 on the build date does that mean its a Hybrid?
Also where there any Hybrid OPT20 cars?

My EL was a March 98 build and was a hybrid. I've also seen Feb 98 built hybrids. Don't know a specific date. Never seen a Jan 98 Hybrid.

And yeah, when they went hybrid all I6's were hybrids, regular and XR engines. So that would mean if a OPT20 pack was specified and built after day X in Feb 98 then it'll be a hybrid.

The only way to be sure it's a hybrid is to check the part number on the head. It'll start with 98DA or 98DT.

If it's a 96DA/96DT it's not a hybrid.

The Hybrid I6 has a clean, beadblasted, aluminium rockercover, the engine block is not painted, and the dark painted cars (ie Navy blue, Regency Red, etc) had just plain black paint under the bonnet. At that time Ford started to use a water based paint, too.
That was in Feb 98.

No all of them do. Mine rocker cover was painted black - like the regular ones. The ONLY way to be sure is the head part number.

Mine also got an AU paint colour. Again EL colours were still made to.

The other differences were phased in as the ELs were finalised.

That'll almost definitely be a hybrid. Check the head part number to be sure.
