I've had quite a few EL motors though here, most of them have been 95AA/95AD on the head. ... one motor from an EL had 94AD on the head, guessing thats an EF motor ..

But the one that had 96DA on the head had totally different rockers and cam ... But it stiill had a painted rocker cover ...

The lobes on the cam where slighy smaller than the standard cams, and the rocker arms where different shape and different spacing between them ..

I was thinking that was the hybird motor ..

yeah that sounds like the AU rocker gear as they are straight and the lobes are smaller and thinner on the cam

I checked my head no. on the weekend and found out that it starts with 96DT. When I went to put spark plugs in it 14 months ago I bought a set of EL plugs. Should I now go and replace these with Plugs to suit an AU XR6.

Also I might be changing a head gasket soon due to the oil coming down the side of the block. Do i have to go and buy the AU repair book to get the torque settings for the head bolts.

I will put the AU gasket on. I will also ring up the local spare parts because to find part numbers for hybrids.

ANy help would be great

Turns out I've got a 95DA head. Now this code hasn't been mentioned before. Bu tI'm guessing from the '95' bit it's a regular EL head, not a hybrid.

So good news for me I guess, new cam time. :)

I just went out and checked out the number on the head of my car.

It says 96DA-6090-AA. There is the number 11 cast below the 96.

As posted before. My car's build date is August 1998.

The black plastic fan belt guard, that I had to pull off to read the head number, has the date code of July 1998 on the underside of it.

Ditto mine.

Looks like no cams for us.

I've added the pics of the engine bay and rocker cover to my gallery along with the cast/part number for anyone elses future reference.

Im thinking that you should stay on the lines of EL parts, if this was to differ to AU parts don't you think that Ford would have brought out a new owner's manual with all Hybrid vehicles?

Look's like my parent's won't be getting a new cam also.....

I am confused. I have a June 1998 EL Fairmont Ghia.

The rocker cover is Red, engine bay is the same colour as the car, just not polished.

I was told I had an XR6 engine in it. Whether its an AU XR6 or EL XR6, Or half of both...I don't know.

I want some engine work done and am doing it myself, so I need to know!

Thanks

AFAIK the Ghia has the engine found in the XR6 you can tell by the red rocker cover, it put out 164kw rather then the normal 157kw.
About it's bottom end im not sure.

Yeah.

He'd have gotten an EL XR6. Now if its a hybrid or not, thats another matter.

Not necessarily, it was also in EL not sure about EF.

Your one would be from the EL naturally

About the power figure it just came to mind the Ghia came with 163kw and the XR6 164kw.

I'd check the head to see if its a Hybrid or not.

Why the 1kw difference between the XR6 and Ghia engines? Difference Exhausts?
