Well, not quite a land speed record, but I did score a cash prize :P

I got a last minute call from a few mates yesterday telling me to come out to WSID with them. My car still isn't running great - really rich, problem with the BBM manifold switching over and losing water somewhere but I thought I'd go out and see what sort of time I could pull with the new engine.

I got off to a bad start when I accidently let my 17's down to 10psi after using a mates faulty tyre pressure gauge  After heaps of wheel spin off the line and into 2nd I pulled an ET of 14.8
Luckily I had 2 stockies, but they were only 195s! They had 36 PSI in them and I didn't want to risk buggering them as well so I just ran them as they were. Again lots of wheel spin as to be expected, but I dropped to 14.7, then 14.6. I finally got a semi-decent launch without wheelspin altho it was at pretty low revs (slipping at maybe 2200rpm ?) and turned out at 14.4 which I'm pretty happy with. I reckon once I get all the problems sorted out and (and start playing with a megasquirt II) I'll be have a 14 flat.

Oh yeah, another thing holding me back, I hit the 180k limiter before crossing the traps so I had to roll across the line for the last second or so! I haven't adjusted my speedo since the diff swap so it's out to buggery (best trap speed was 152km/h)

Still, 14.4 ain't bad for a NA 6 and to the best of my knowledge (someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm interested to know) it's the quickest EF around in that category. Atleast until Waggin gets his act together :P

My biggest achievement of the night was taking out 1st place in the reaction time competition with 0.001 and collecting the $300 prize money. (pity I was only 0.001 off scoring the much larger jackpot)

I've got some video footage too which I'll get up in a few days.

top effort mate! well done on that reaction time too - pretty impressive!

i think johno (SVO XR6) will be giving you a good run for your money in the quickest N/A 6 on the forums when he finally takes his down to the drags  i know he was running pretty close to that before, but he's since got twin TB's & more aggressive cam - just needs to get the tuning right :P

TOP EFFORT.

The time is good but I have seen an XH ute do 14.4 too at WSID.

Your TS is way too low though so the speed limiter is holding you back as even I can get 145k.

Go and get the black speedo drive gear from ford $7 and put that in it will slow down the speedo and increase the speed at which the limiter cuts in.

14.4 to 14 starts getting hard u know the power has to really ramp up not just a few extra kw. 40 extra rwkw got me from 16.8 to 15.6 but to get to 14.6 it would take more than anothe 40rwkw

Yeah there's something wrong with the trap speeds, altho mine aren't too far off. I did one run and got 14.8 @ 92 mph then 14.6 @ 90 mph. I then had a mate turn out at 14.9 in cooper S and only get 54mph and another mate ran an embarrasing 20.4 in a "modified" excel but got a trap speed of 586mph! lol

The power thing is interesting and I don't think you can go off dyno sheets. I ran on the same dyno before and after my new engine and in its current state of tune it only pulled 145kw vs 136kw with a wade stage 2 cam. I find it hard to believe that all the extra work (ie whole new engine rebuild with stage 4 cam, much higher compression, larger capacity, over sized valves etc) has only gained me 10kw.
Another guy there last night in a white EF manual (riced to the s**t house!) had extractors, cam and headwork dyno'd at 135kw and couldn't better 15.5

I'm pretty sure I can better the 14.4 with the speed limiter situation sorted, plus lean it out a little (current A/F ratio is 12:1) and a much more agressive launch (with something fatter than 195 tyres! : )

4.11 diff gears hey... hmmm
Nah probably too much of head ache for daily driving.
I'm pretty happy with where I am now without spending thousands more just for a few extra 10ths of a second.

Its all in the application!! Getting power to ground etc..
Especially with manuals as power increases..
60 ft time is so important...
The 6's seem to get off line very good as my top speed is 175 @13.6 V8
I have 330 rwkw so yes time and traction????
I think I know one issue to fix ?

I know! Station Wagon with 15x10's.. More weight over the rear wheels!!!!

Heheh

The problem is when you have big power, and big traction, you start breaking and twisting things!

I'm running a 3.45 LSD.
Not sure where I'm loosing coolant from but I suspect it may be boiling and coming out the overflow. The car has never actually overheated as such but the temperature is often pretty hot - between the O and R in NORMAL - N being the closest to hot. Cruising along the highway it sits on A though... :?:

Yobbo, I fully psyched myself to take out the reaction time thing. I was supposed to run about a month back but I got there 5 minutes too late and they'd sold out the 200 tickets so I couldn't run. I was spewing to my mates and said "damn, I was going to win the reaction time comp too"

This is the only footage I have at the moment, my mate has another tape but I won't see him until next week. As you can see, it was a pretty tame launch so I could definitely do better off the line. Nothing terribly inspiring, just video proof :)
