OK EB II SXR6 - Pretty irrelevent I know but its a EB I6 ok.
Turbo - Again not terribly important. Symptoms are, car can be slow to crank but it will start, More importantly, after driving for a while, shut the car off, IE at a servo to fill up, go to start the car and its very slow to crank, sometimes it will start sometimes not and better hope there is a hill around to clutch start it. I am about 80% sure its on its last legs, and am in the process of biulding a new motor, Pistons/ACL Kit actually arrived today. block and other items off to machine shop early Jan, its that close not, thinking of a rebuild, but actually doing it. Is my starter dying and should i try and make room in my budget for a new starter? or is it something i have overlooked? Alt is about 6 months old as it the battery, 550 CCA battery, boot intall with heavy a** cable 00 guage running through the chassis rail. Give me some things to try to make sure its almost RIP. Dave

to rule out the battery-even though it is 6 months old, connect a jump starter to it and see if it starts quicker..

You need to prove the battery is not an issue - see if you can borrow a known good one from someone, and drive around with it fitted for a few days. You should also prove the +ve line and connection to the starter is okay, along with earth lines to the block/chassis, etc.
These should be relatively easy to do. Try this stuff first. Another suggestion - get rid of the poll thing, makes the thread look nooby . . . .

Poll gone on your request... cmon its late.. and I'm frustrated! Wiring has been checked, battery i spose needs to be tested, do you think a battery place that does "free testing" will be happy to help, or are tehy just gonna harrass me to buy a new battery?

I'm hearin' ya.
Wouldn't hurt to try them. What happens is the battery is put under load - you can do same by turning lights on incl high beam for about 20 mins or longer, and see what happens. Take a voltage reading beforehand, take one as lights are turned on, and another reading when time is nearly up. If the lights are already very dim, then you know what's happening. Test your alternator as well - take a voltage reading with it running at fast idle - 13.5-14.0 volts is good - turn your low beam on, and see if the voltage drops below 12 volts, if so the alternator mightn't be charging very well, contributing to the battery problem. So this stuff should be pretty easy to do.

i have a battery tester at my place dave
you could always bring it up here if you cant find anywhere local. im just on the other side of the georges river pretty much but i think most battery places would test the battery for free. also check that the positive termila is tight ( i had similarpreoblems on my falcon and thats what it turned out to be)
