i not the owner of the local zorst shop in town. i asked him whether extractors give off any more noise. now this guy knows his s**t down to a T and he says no difference. which i can understand because the exhaust has to go through the same system after the cat.

but i have other ppl tell me that it deffinatly WILL make it louder. (s**t me thinks) what do you guys think? what about the overall note itself? i think they've got noise confused with note...

the extractors make an aftermarket exhaust system a bit louder, although i've never had extractors on without an aftermarket exhaust system first so i cant be sure.

they will have a different sound, and in theory the smoother path of the extractors could mean less energy lost through friction so more sound. but it wont make the exhaust noticably louder. It wont be intrusive anyway

You can hear more noise from the front of the car, no louder out the back though.

You get more of a lumpy sound, on an i6, there is not much lump, so the difference isnt to much.

To lesson the effect of the cam overlap noise you hear from the extractors you can use a thicker oil at operating temp.

i found that changing from one brand of extractors to another the car sounded different, not louder or quieter, just different.

the level of volume wont change (thats more dependant on the muffler setup)...however adding extractors will change the sound/note the exhaust makes.

Ive got a pacemaker ad here, and in there Q&A it says that it will not increase noise, but then they could say that so you buy them incase your one of those people who dont want to be defected.
