Ford 6 in Escort? Unless you only like going in straight lines - don't bother. Brakes aren't big enough, it'll handle like crap (good for drifting though) and (as stated elsewhere) it's too long.

If it was easy - they'd be everywhere.

Put in an alloy V8 (Lexus, Rover) but the chassis rails will need modifying, a turbo rotary (if you can put up with the awful noise) or any good jap 4 (Nissan/Toyata with 5 speed)

ok if your serious

you'll need to move the firewall back for a start just to get some room. Custom mounts, possible rad support mods to get a decent radiator in there, possible shock tower/steering mods to get a exhaust to fit, custom gearbox mounts and probably tunnel mods to get a box to go in behind, then you'll need to fit a diff....

it'll go alright. Wont turn corners. Dont even think about getting it rego'd. think 15 grand budget to start

oh and i forgot all the other bits, EFI computer, surge tank, hi and low pressure pumps, return lines, brakes etc etc

it's my car and a big thanks to all the ppl that visited my page. my hit counter got a sudden wake up call after this thread. and to all the ppl who sent me an email a special thanks. a little bit of encouragement goes a long way :)

in answer to tickford_6's comments;

because it's in a cortina, does that mean u arent impressed? would i be right in assuming u drive something "mainstream"?

why did i bother with a 6? well because v8's in cortinas are that common that u can buy the conversion kit off the shelf. if u got the money and the expertise the conversion can be done in a couple of weekends. at the time i did the conversion, to my knowledge it hadnt been done before and that in itself was my main reason. u have to consider that i have a car which starts first pop, is quiet when needed, has modern reliablility , gets 600kms to a 55litre tank, idles smoothly and still runs 13's in street trim and standard form. you sound like the kind of narrow minded "glass half-empty" person who goes to a car show, looks at a $50,000/1000hour holden and thinks it's a piece of $hit cos u cant see past the badge. i like your sig, and as a matter of fact i DO know :)

in answer to greg_s's original question; u can do whatever u like if u got the money and time. gettting an inline 6 into an escort is gonna be alot of work with firewalls etc but it'll definitely stand out and be something special when it's finished. if you can get the engine in, i can help you with rest of it. everything else is easy. they arent as heavy compared to a pinto as ppl think, brakes are upgradable and if u wanted it to handle like a limo u'd start with a longer car anyway. i reckon have a go.

failing that, how bout a V6?

feel better now, my two cents worth

cheers,
Norm

dont take offence to it. i siad it because the original post was about puting putting one in an escort. and some one posted your car. and being a cortina it doesn't fit with original post.

don't make asumptions. you'd be suprised at the cars i own and have previously owned.

try a hilux 4x4 with a V6 chev 35inch tyres and the suspension to back it up.
my XR6

an MK2 escort 1600 with nicly setup engine.( 40mm side druaghts race spec cam. 4 into 1 extractors. ported head big valves.

and a few other cars.

i've seen and been a part in build to many projects to be overly impressed by a 6cyl cortina. But thats not to say i dont know a nice car when i see one

ps: one last point... given the photo of your car was very limmited in detail, do you think maybe i might have keen interest in the early fords. not to many people could have picked that as a cortina by that photo
