Got one of the coil mounts made up this arvo, think I will cut the rest out at work on the bandsaw on Tuesday, much easier than a grinder.
Coil mount, as the coils have tapered rubber they hold in quite solidly Blue tacked in place, will TIG them all once I have polished and scothbrighted the rocker cover, too hard to get in there once they are welded in place. With the coil in pace, I'm sure these were made to fit the EF rocker cover, should look quite good. |

On a similar note though, I saw a clip on youtube where someone had made a working cylinder head with electromagnets controlling the valves.
Imagine the gains to be had there!!! all these arguments about what type of cam is best vs what type of driving etc etc, these would be like having the peak power from 1000 rpm to redline. Also not to mention no cam shaft, no timing gear, no rocker gear, no rocker cover and less oil there would be big weight saving there.[/quote] F1 cars run withouts cams I think & use solenoids or something to control the inlet/zorst valves. |

That's a bloody good idea for individual coils, well done. Maybe to save some work, you could get those rings laser cut? That way they will all be exactly the same.

Would be nice but take too long, I think I will cut them out by hand tomorrow, that way I can get the wiring done for the coils. |

Got a bit more work done today, and still have tomorrow (God bless the Queen)
Got rid of the pesky HT lead cutout mount on the rocker cover. Much smoother look, still have to finish final sanding. Started on the vacuum rail And a catch can of sorts, more just a PCV breather, I will mount a small breather on top. |

Nice.....how much was that????....and where did you get it????
How do you find it to use???...does it have a foot trigger, or scratch start??? If you play with the plasma cutter bit, make sure you have about 3 driers on it.....will make it last longer......any moisture will bugger it.

Delivered it was $1400 (I didn't have $3-4k for a CIG or Miller), found it through ebay, is amazing to use (compared to the dinosaur one at work which only has scratch start and no ramp) This one has foot control, pulse setting, pre/post gas flow, pre/post ramp setting (it also has a hand trigger). It has good penetration on 10mm 6061 alloy, above 10mm and I reckon you'd need a 3 phase 300+amp, but for what I'm doing it is brilliant. Welding steel is like cutting butter with a hot knife, so clean, precise and noiseless, I like it much better than MIG or stick. Thanks for the advice on the driers, I have one hooked to my compressor, and one came with the welder, will look at getting another one before I play with the plasma cutter. |

I have a small SIP scratch TIG.....not much good for thin stuff..weird...good for 2mm and thicker...but no good for alloy.....no high frequency start....

Yeah, foot control was a must for me, I like to give it a boot to get it to puddle quick then back off to run the weld, it also allows me to back off a bit and still keep the arc if I need to change hand position or feed direction on the filler rod. Considering welders charge approx $70 an hour for alloy, by the time the car is finished it should have just about paid for itself, so a good investment (well that's the story I told the Mrs when it turned up ) |

Got the oil breather almost finished, gotta pick up some weld in pro-flow fitting tomorrow and a little breather filter to finish it.
Anyone know where I can find a small windscreen washer bottle, the standard one is going to be in the way, I want to put the fuel regulator where it currently is? |

or a gm one, that sits in behind the bumper with the filler that comes through the guard....
or maybe you could make an ally one to fit underneath somewhere, just need a grommet to fit the pump into |
