I only have one problem with this.

If your going to run an air box or plentum and piping was the ITB conversion worth it?
Because i thought the ITB's were for instant throttle response and power, and an airbox or plentum will defeat the purpose wont it?

Plus with the airbox or plentum it wont look as good as it dose now...

The only difference in the setup will be no ram tubes, beside in the mean time the way it will be built will mean I can swap it for the ram tubes in under 5 minutes, for dyno runs etc.

But it is in preparation for adding a turbo to the ITB's, it will still retain the ITB characteristics eg: throttle response, but have the added benefit of boosted mid/top range.

Interestingly, I just took it for a drive with the straight pipes as in the above photo, now they are 44mm ID so the tune would have been quite rich in spots, but it had surprisingly good response, torque and power. Obviously it lost power up top due to flow restrictions, but the low to mid even being rich as s**t would have been on par, and with a bit of adjusting the fuel map probably better.

Which would suggest that the current 48mm are too big for the current head/cam.

So with the turbo setup it may pay to keep the runners at 44mm for the most torque off idle, thoughts anyone?

with a well designed plenum it will make more power

Seeing as the Aussie $ is doing so well, I have been thinking of some turbo parts

Looking at a water to air intercooler, I think now the aircon condensor and drier are gone i could fit a log style intercooler in behind the front bumper.

Water to Air Intercooler - 14.5"x5"x4.5", Long Flow (Type 19)

Including postage it works out to $269 AUD, or $265 USD :)

I am going to lathe up an inside radius die, then press the runners into shape, then press and form it over a 3" solid bar, so I will be able to keep the round plenum and have the smooth inner radius, as in that T-piece

Runners cut, need to shorten the bend in the heater hoses, then it should fit nicely.

Will you still use the bell mouth stacks? I reckon air velocity will suffer a bit having it straight like that. probably use shorter stacks like the plastic enclosed setup you've posted.

For the enclosure, probably have the stainless or mild steel sheet rolled to form a half drum. you can even run the two intake primaries into a larger collector then into one. you'll have extractors for the exhaust side then there's the intractors for the intake side. LOL

Here's my poor mans cad program drawing to get an idea.

If I was staying NA with it, the bellmouths might be benificial, however when it has boost, they would cause turbulence as Tickford_6 said earlier.

Mine will end up similar to how the runners come off of this plenum

Old intake parts bin is getting rather full :D
Image

Picked up all the alloy to do the plenum this morning, cheapest I could find on ebay was $35 +postage for a 500mm length of 3" tube, local alloy place had some but had to buy the whole 6 meter length for $50, so will have a little bit of off cuts

I love banging metal , it's very stress relieving

Shaping a runner

Imagine there is a flat side where the runner joins

Started doing a test piece, and ran out of bloody argon, trip to BOC in the morning
Image

Nearly finished flaring
Image

runner and runner flange

Plenum body will taper from the back to front, made from the 3" pipe cut down the middle, and have a 3" opening pointing to the front left corner

I will have to do one run with the ram tubes and one with the new plenum, can't get much better comparison I guess

More work on the plenum

The runners will be welded on the outside
Image

Then once welded, I can port the flange into the runner, for a perfect curve
Image

I am going to try and get a little bit more flare before welding them.

Time for a coffee and a plenum update:

Tacked into place

Welding 1/4 at a time to avoid any warping
Image

Smoothing the insides
Image

Yay it fits

Working out the body section

now back to work...
