Will the turbo being backwards in that pic affect your setup?

The turbine rolls inward towards the head, not outward.

Nah, the turbo is just a model I grabbed for looks, the engine bay measurements were done off the Garrett specs.

So where did you learn all about fluid dynamics and design? Are you an engineer?

Sorry if this has been asked before but its a long thread to check back through!

have you considered angling the throttle bodies at 5-10 degrees upwards on the head flange at all?

Would you do that for flow? or for extra room for runner/ram tube length?

I've been looking at building up a budget flow bench type of thing to be able to push/pull air through head and or manifolds, so I can use a threaded wand to see how the air flows, find dead spots, try different angles etc. I'm wondering what impact bringing the runners closer together so the plenum is shorter would have, as I'm also planning on making a regular one TB plenum at the same time.

eg: Using a threaded wand to see how air flows.

I moved the pod filter to under the front bumper, it sort of has it's own airbox, throttle response and torque increased down low by a fair bit due to the increased length of the entire intake, it was raining today, and twice the a*** end slipped sideways from the lights at idle (1% throttle slow take off) by letting the clutch out too quick, when the pod was in the engine bay with no throttle it would cough a little when the clutch came out too quick, but with the extra length it has torque with no throttle at 850rpm  pretty much.

Sucking in the cool air outside the engine bay has improved daily driving 5 fold, no more heat sink at the lights, and when I hit the hills on the way home the air temp drop could really be felt, when it's 30plus outside it is down on power a bit by the time I get to the hills in the arvo, as the engine bay temps get around 50-60c which is the temp air it was sucking, now with the intake in the front bar, intake sits pretty much at ambient. Big difference in driving.

People underestimate how bad intake temps are with exposed pods in the engine bay. Especially in a boosted setup or with extractors (high underbonnet temps) relocating the filter makes a huge, measurable difference to drivability, as you've seen!

Was doing some driving yesterday in the AU with my Carman scan connected, i was using the live data to check the LPG tune.
it lets me choose what parameter are on the screen, so i had:
engine speed
TPS
Intake temp
MAP
O2
short term feul trim
long term feul trim
open/closed loop status

29 degree day, intake temps showed anywhere from 40 to 60 degrees.

I've done some testing a few years ago, and found that most of the heat was added to the intake air while it was inside the air box. there was only minimal heat gain in the intake pipe

Even though the headers look like spaghetti they are still sex.

Also BMW haven't discovered your secret as to the benefits of ITB's in a plenum :P

But seriously I wonder why they haven't created a CAI? Unless there is but its off for demo purposes.

i think u will find that a nice big plenum sits in the valley feeding the fresh air to the engine

Yep they do, one for each bank, and seperate air boxes.

Just look at how straight those ports are! That's a nicely designed cylinder head.

For any one interested keep an eye on the 'for sale' section, another too tempting project has come along out of nowhere, so the EF will be up for sale very shortly.

Should be a bargain, 175rwkw car (+ potential) for less than the cost of a Mock DEV5 kit to get 170rwkw.

Stay tuned..
