Often also called straight 6, as opesed to V6 (i.e. Holden), and box engines (I think Subaru and Porche like these) and flat engines (old - I've yet to see one and don't know how they work, maybe just an inline running on it's side?).

Isn't it a "boxer" engine? somehow manage to get a quad cam 4 cyl lol. weird engine, terrible NA performance too (in subaru's incarnation). You forgot the rotary engine! Oh and if you're not familiar with the terminology, v4/v6/v8 engines are also referred to as "bent". |

Yep Its called a boxer engine as it's cylinders are opposed facing out and punching like a boxer. |

Its' still a flat or horizontally opposed engine. It's the most common 'flat' engine.
