Okay, was checking my oil the other day and fade this solidified stuff on some part that is connected to the right front of the engine (then to the radiator). Was just like touching sherbet dust that had come into contact in water and dried.

Anyway, first picture is the residue itself, after I had touched it. Was a larger ball before i squished a wee bit with my fingers.

Second picture is just a pipe underneath where the residue was leaking, where the residue has leaked onto.

Okay, picture three there is two arrows (second arrow only came into being when I was resizing the pictures). Arrow 1 is the connection hub (or whatever) where the residue is coming from. Arrow 2 only just noticed that, not sure if fresh or old (I'll ave a look later), but anything to worry about?

And finally picture 4 is just the connection with the residue and the pipe underneath again with the stains.

do you mean around the base of your thermostat?? it just looks like Metal Corrosion to me

looks like corrosion to me. Thermostat leaks, runs down the housing, dries, corrosion.

yeah thats your thermostat mate. i cant remember if they have a gasket?? anyways remove your radiator hose and drain enoughf water out. then remove the thermostat (replace gasket if it has one?) and whack some of that blue sealent s**t around the base. its just water leaking out and corroding away at the metal

Well if you're right, thanks for identifying. But more importantly should I get onto it now or at my next service (1000km away)? Costly to fix, what could go wrong?

Hmmm, sounds beyond me that, will my mechanic charge too much to fix it?

Lol, well in that case I need to know exactly what I need, exact step by step instructions, where to buy the gasket, etc. So if you wanna help (more than you already have, ta for that), you can, if not mechanic it is.

looks like a poorly maintainde cooling system. get rid of your thermostst gasket and just use ultra blue. use good quality coolant too like ford motorcraft r1.

you can purchase the gasket from FORD. then as voids said just use some ultra blue sealant around the base and wack it back on. tighen it up, hook up your radiator again and put some more water in

I wouldnt bother with the gasket at all - the blue sealant is far better.

yeah blue sealent will do the job. by the way till. see that blue s**t in ur thermostat pic? thats the sealent we are talking about.
