To sly.
The el has a distributor. consider yourself lucky with the dizzy. The magneto is on the inside of the distributor, In your case mate it would more than likely be either crook leads or a cap. If you do replace your leads , reroute your leads from the front rather than doing it like ford did. They get to hot under the tube and start breaking down under load. |

It is at the front of the engine, if look straight down the front of the engine you will see your belt. just behind the part of the belt thats closest to you you will see a plug with two wires coming out the top.
If you can get to it to me how you did it, coz it looks pretty awkward from where I woz standing.

yeah i just looked under the hood as well looks like it may be hard but when you remove the timing cover it looks pretty easy. ( just one bolt and then take off the power steering fluid cap)

i went and did mine after reading this thread. took about 20min literally. remove intake snorkel, remove fans, remove belt cover and remove serpentine belt. then two 7 mm bolts out, clean up sensor and installation reverse of removal. too easy. can't say it made much difference though!

I'll try that .i've still got a slight problem but, i just had my transmission fully flushed. The guy said that the torque converter had a lot of crap in it. It fixed my dead spot through the mid range revs and fixed my bad idle problem. it is still there very slightly so i'll clean the the crank angle sensor as well. But thanks for the tips guys it's been a great help.
By the way my car f**k pulls hard now and goes like a rocket. The trans service made a BIG difference. Well worth the $$$$'s spent.

For those with EA, EB, ED and EL you obviously can't do this. Instead you might want to give this a go:
1 - Take the ISC off and give it a really good clean (carby cleaner, degreaser etc) 2 - Put it back on but leave the plug off, and with the engine warm set the idle speed to around 700-800rpm. 3 - Spray plenty of carby cleaner down the intake with the engine running. 4 - Advance the ignition timing a few degrees (helps a little) 5 - Reset the computer and follow the correct idle procedure (do a search!) If that fails, maybe you have a vacuum leak - check all hoses leading to the intake manifold, and also check the gasket. Lastly if you are still having issues, maybe you have a dud sensor somewhere, or maybe bad plugs & leads. |

Ny Current leads are only 18 months old so I am not sure if it is them I checked my Spark Plugs and they looked fine just slightly black and I am using just XR6 EL plugs. Maybe have to chnage to these BA XR6 plugs everyone is raving about?
