gday, i have just converted my ef to manual and took it for a drive the other night and have noticed when i start it. it will rev up to 2000rpm then eventually comes down to just over 1000rpm. is there a reason for that? anything i can do about it? cheers

Rev hang is generally caused by the TPS voltage at idle being more then 0.7V. Base idle at 600rpm or a little lower and TPS at aroung 0.70v will stop the rev hang...

I have the same problem, and would like to know how you go about altering the TPS voltage. Or alter the idle speed ( is it a screw on TPS? )

yeah its kinda annoying cos i just wanna fix it and make it idle normal.

It's because you have an auto ecu that is expecting a rather large and heavy torque converter to be connected to the flywheel and has to idle higher to compensate for that.

Most times you can reset the base idle lower and it should sort itself out over a few days. But it can be a tricky balancing act. Too little base idle it will always stall, too much and it will over rev and hang during gear changes.

One good way is to make up a cardboard spacer to put between the ISC and throttle body, but make the holes smaller than whats in the ISC. I think about 10 or 12mm from memory, and this will help greatly. Will still let the ISC do what it thinks is right, but restricts the volume of air enough to maintain the right idle and rev characteristics.
