I think the idler pulleys are stuffed, I think i will change both the top and bottom pulleys. Are there any dramas to look out for when changing them.
Does about $40 each sound right. |

hunt around i got both from a ford dealer for $45.
and nothing special, just you need to use 1/4 socket and extension on the bottom passenger side bolt as there is no room.

40 each is too much to pay, unless thats a fitted price which would be fair enough i suppose

radiator out is best, and a 3/8" drive to release the tension on the pulleys. I use one of the elcheapo 3/8" drive ratchets

you don't need to take out the radiator!!
just the thermos, and you have enough room to mud wrestle in there if you wanted.

Hope its not too late but f**k the standard replacement pulleys.
Get some aftermarket replacement items from Repco - they carry a full range of METAL replacement pulleys (Nuline). Much better quality IMO.

You could get away with doing it without removing thermos - just brace for a few skinned knuckles.
They very simple to remove tho - two bolts hold it to the radiator. Then unplug the two electrical connectors and hey presto. Ring ahead with repco - they might have to order the pulley in...

BTW for the EL 6cyl:
Nuline part# EP009 - water pump EP010 - tensioner (cant even replace these IIRC so dont bother lol) EP011 - flat idler pulley (i.e. no grooves, goes on the back of a ribbed belt) Which ones you looking at replacing?

You don't have to buy the pulleys, just the bearings. I replaced mine for the grand sum of $8 and took me about 15 minutes (including the celebratory can afterwards!) Contact CBC or a bearing supplier once you have them out, give them the number or better still nick down ther with the bearings. Piece of cake!

as far as i know you can't take the bearings out of the ford pulleys, they have a lip around it on both sides.
don't know about the aftermarket metal ones.
