Hey guys,
My wifes car has bit the dust and i was just wondering about the cause of the problem. It's not a ford but a Daewoo cielo. I was just wondering what would happen if the ingition coil died. The car at the moment still cranks over but just doesn't fire??? I've checked plugs and leads and jsut changed the fuel filter. The only other thing i havn't checked would be the injectors but i dont think that they would cause the car not to fire just miss badly. Any help guys im really stuck.

well if the coil died it won't send the electrical signal to the distributor to fire the plugs,,so replace it with a new one.

You can check the coil by connecting a sparkplug directly to the coil lead. Get your wife to crank the car over while you hold sparkplug to earth. Use insulated pliers . If you get no spark or a very weak one, replace the coil.

so if the coil is rooted , would the car still crank over but just wouldn't fire?

Well i changed the igniton coil today and plugs/leads and still f**k wont fire. Still cranks over but just wont f**k start. What else can i check or do guys? It's driving me bonkers . My friend was saying somethin bout the crank angle sensor. What does that do and what happens if it's out. im thinkin its somethin electrical but i dont know what to check
I was so close to f**k putting a match to it today

if the crank angle sensor fails then it wont have spark or injection pulse. if u've got a noid light backrpobe it into the two pin connector on the side of the distributor. if the light flashes then u have the correct inputs going into the coil for spark. if it doesnt flash then either the module of the crank angle sensor have failed. the cas is no longer available new so a trip to the wreckers for a 2nd distributor would be the go.
unless of course u have the distributorless ignition and then it's a whole different ball game.

noid lights are about $15.00 and also are the only poor man's way to check if u have a pulse at the injectors. i dont know what shops u's have over there but coventrys and repco will have them. the ABW part number is 70404.
pulling a spark plug out and checking for spark that way is only going to tell u that the ignition system isnt working as a whole. then it's a matter of finding out which component of the ignition system is the fault. it gives me the s**t when ppl without a clue give advice in the way of "it could be the ......" or "my car did this and it was the ....... so i'd replace the ...... if i were u" if u can diagnose it then there isnt any chance of replacing parts that dont need it. if it doesnt make sense i can try and explain several different ways till the penny drops. they arent difficult.

Thats what a forum is for! To share people own experiences with others. Often these experiences will solve the problem or at least put someone on the right track to finding the cause. However as with any form of trouble shooting the problem must be logically illiminated. People should not jump to the easiest, commonest fault without doing their own checks first.
