I was wondering how I can check my ignition timing?
I need a timing light yeah? I'm also very confused about this. I put the car in diagnostics mode with the timing light (one end of it on lead other on spark plug?). If it's out I then loosen the distributer bolt and simply turn it (whole thing or cap only?) I turn it until it reaches 10 degrees TDC (10 degrees past the TDC mark clockwise?) The light blinks everytime it fires in that lead yeah? But with the craqnkshaft spinning how can I possibly see the notch to indicate that it's in time? Also turning the distributer with the engine on doesn't sound safe either. |

what type of light is it,,inductive or conductive,,and its meant to be 10* before TDC.
and you use number 1 sparky.

yes, when the mark on your harmonic balancer goes past the timing mark then that is 10deg BTDC
you need to earth out your computer to put it in diagnostic mode, there is a spade terminal connector up near your brake booster, run a lead from your negative terminal on battery to this connector, this will put you in diagnostic mode for 2 minutes, if you need longer then you will need to turn the ignition off for 15 seconds before trying to start again to re-enter diagnostic mode
