just wanted to know if its worthwhile going down the path of increasing the comp on a xr6 with mild mods (intake, zorst, tune). reason for asking this is, i want to swap over to E85 once it becomes more available, and if the engine has high compression and is tuned properly E85 can yield more power over a 98RON tuned motor.
also just after a rough pricing and exactly what is involved in increasing the compression. thanks

How much more comression do you want?

Or what say you just get your motor tuned for E85 and see how you like it, we converted a carb setup for E85 using teflon lines etc, needed about 30% more fuel to get the mixtures sweet and by crikey it was near on impossible to get it to ping.
Seemed to have the characteristics of methanol.

Quote: How much more comression do you want? i don't want to go over the top, i was thinking 10-11:1 provided ive picked up the right info and a BA mk2 xr6 has stock 9.7:1 ratio. but before i would actually get this done E85 would have to go down in price, ive heard some reports saying you save literally 5cents per 100km's. E85 is predicted to go down in price once it becomes more common, im hoping by this time it will actually be E85, not E85 *up to 85% ethanol.

Find a wrecked Egas falcon and use the engine out of that.
Or if you wan't to stick with your own engine, strip it a measure it and buy a set of genuine egas pistons. |

you would run an aftermarket computer or chip and get it tuned for e85

If that is the case then for us it was around 22% more fuel for part throttle openings and round 40% wide open throttle. (stoich was 9.76) Used 22 degrees advance all up @ 6500 (stock motor).. got a 12% increase in power on the dyno. Dont know why people want to immediatley jump for after market engine management systems. The one on the BA for instance is incredible. Edit: E85 is affected by the weather, get it tuned in the summer and it'll be ok for winter.
