can anyone tell me how to install a switch for the ISC to turn it on and off... is it a special switch you buy from ford or can you use any on/off trigger switch type thing...

Well the ISC works on a PWM signal.... its not "on or off".
What one could do... is to install a switch to intercept the PWM signal going to the ISC. Do we know if EEC monitors the position of the ISC or does it simply assume that the ISC is doing as it is told?

You can install a switch in series with the ISC wires to cut it off and you can also add a TEMP sensor and a relay to automate it so it disconnects when warmed up.
Someone here has made a coke can spacer up to reduce the hole size so the ISC has less of an effect.

Yeah I used to use a switch that intercepted the wires going to the ISC and you could switch it off.

voxace ... to do that did you just cut the wire and put a switch in the line and extended wire so the switch was in the dash ??

alright that might be something ill give a go..
my car idles like s**t and the revs take for ever to go down when i put clutch in or on idle ... and i unplugged the isc and it runs fine... but i was told it will idle s**t when its cold... so if i can set a switch up to turn it on when starting the car and turn it off after its all warmed up it should be sweet..

i ran my car for ages without an isc and had no issues, made no differance in dyno (checked to see if the computer was freaking out because of it being unplugged)
moring idle was non existant, had to feather the throttle to keep it from stalling, but the car ran heaps smoother, esp on gas, as it made tuning the gas heaps easier. |

If you're interested in setting it up with a temperature switch, you could easily wire up a davies craig kit used for thermofans, and just use a Normally open relay to switch it.

which wire did you splice into for the switch?

Well, either of the wires in the engine bay that go to the ISC.
Or, a better way would be to splice into one coming out of the ECU. Look up the technical documents to find out which one. |

seanb, if your revs are taking a while to drop, and it idles a bit off, i'd say the isc might be working.
i'd check the fuel system to make sure the engines getting the right amount of fuel first. if its lean. it wont idle right or let the revs drop back because the AF ratio will be ~14.7-1 for a very short time and just let the motor keep turning. i may be wrong tho. have you cleaned the isc? i hear those things get pritty gunky. there was a thread here on how to clean them a while back too.

i think the thread went something like 'take off isc... buy can-o-carbyclean and empty in to isc... flush well... check it opens and closes ok... dry & reinstall"
if its sticky or something, it would leave the valve open for a little bit till it closed
