Well i am going to try this mod, put the battery where the airbox sits and then heatshield off a pod where the standard battery sits. this will get rid of the 90 degree intake bends and probably give a good gain in hp.
I just got a factory AU exhaust header heatshield to cover the pacemakers and a roll off that heat proof tape. Anyone got some pics so it will help me out. I got a battery tray out of an ea and going to weld it in where the airbox sits, i also got some good gauge red and black cables with 2 small conn terminal boxes so i can hook them up to the existing battery conections without doing major wiring mods.. cheers....................

To be honest, even though the 90 bends may look restrictive they aren't. I doubt you will get much (if any) performance gain from it.

it's worth the effort i reckon, just the fact i know at wide open throttle the air speed isn't getting slowed down by a very bad 90 degree bend at the entry to the TB, is good enough for me.
For the extra time and effort ( i am a pretty neat mig welder) it should look professional and hopefully gain a couple of extra horses at the back wheels... cheers.....

Crazy! check out how clean that header tank is!

The 90 degree bend really doesnt make a diffrence. In fact the difference between running a open throttle body to a standard intake pipe is 1kpa of manifold pressure. It does look cool though.

What 90* bend?
The bend is closer to 270* than 90*!!! I still wonder why Ford put the battery and airbox on the sides they did. |

I wonder why ford didn't engineer the plenum & T/B so it faces the passenger shock tower. that way it'll just have a nice 90 degree elbow pipe to the air box.
No need to explain bottom end torque loses with the standard setup, its just a myth. theres enough S bends {short & long runners} in the plenum to control air vilocity.

I had the exact same idea and we talked about it but its really not worth it. It may look f**k clean but it all depends on the user.

probably because it doesn't really make "that" much difference.... but I do often wonder why they made certain design choices - it would be great to have one of the engineers as a member who could answer the odd question like that!

the reason why the TB is where it is, is to keep the intake pipe nice and long improving low down power
