I normally do it out of gear with the pistons at BDC. With your compressor hooked up and about 90psi in each pot, you will need to be working really bloody hard to drop a valve unless they are bent or warped. I wouldnt put it in gear as when you do pressurise the cylinders, if its not at TDC, then the motor turns over very violently and this may make the car jump, even if it is in gear with the hand brake on, or the clutch could even slip. Ive done a lot of autos too which is another reason why Ive not had this option, so I do my cam installs the same way for manuals and autos.

i second jays comment, if you fill the cylinders at tdc and something moves the motor will kick round to bdc very violently.. atleast if your on bdc, or close to it it wont kick far. also when you do it do 1,6,5,2,3,4 this way you dont have to keep turning the motor. (as 1 &6 are at the same height as are 5,2 and 3,4..) good luck, it sounds scarier than it is...

alritey when moving the engine over, will pressurising the cylinder in nuetral be enough to push it down to BDC or am i going to have to do it manually

na so long as its not at TDC when you do it, cause all it takes is for you to knock the belts or cam gear and she will rip over, taking whatever is near it with it. Ive never had this happen however Ive always been very cautious with it.
