How hard is it to get down to the crankshaft and install the crank gear that comes with the cam gear? I'm thinking about buying a set and sticking it on myself.
Also, where is the TDC mark for when I take the old gear off? I just need to line it up with this mark before I remove anything, right? and then it's a matter of ensuring the new gear goes on properly too, right? I just need to know how much work is involved. $190 for cam gear+chain+crank gear $190 dyno-tune. Sound good? |

Never heard of anyone changing anything at the crank to fit vernier gear, at the camshaft gear is where you fit the vernier gear.
If its an EA to ED roughly 6 hours not rushing it to get to the crank "If you have to"

I have an EF.
I thought it would be necessary to change all the gear so the chain matches the cogs. It's just that if you put a new chain on worn cogs it won't be a perfect fit. Same with the cam gear. Since one cog is new (the cam gear) and one is old, it's not going to match up properly. In theory... |

yeah it is possibly, IMO i wouldnt really bother, just purchase the Crow Vernier Gear and leave it at that, this way you will be able to Advance or Retract the Valve timing easily by yourself, shouldnt take anymore than 1-2 hourse to slap on and tune

Yeah, maybe it's not worth the bother digging into the guts of the motor for one cog. However, this depends how much time I have on my hands. I have none at the moment, so I'm not doing it yet, but mid year-ish, I might have a go.
