Well I tried to find the previous thread on fitting a BA intake to an EL but couldn't so I will just post here.
I have bought and fitted the BA intake and flex pipe from throttle body to airbox. The plastic bit fits fine with no problems, all bolt holes line up and clearance is fine. The flex pipe is just a little short. At first I managed to streach it over the rubber mount on the back of the airbox for the original pipe. I have been using the Datalogger to record manifold pressure traces before and after the mod. I have found that at this stage INTAKE FLOW IS WORSE! Full results will be posted later but with the original intake manifold vaccum at 5000RPM WOT was about 0.9 Inch Hg. After it was 1.1 Inch Hg Of vaccum. Seat of the pants I couldn't feel any difference although the intake was a little quieter but made a nicer sound. The datalogger shows that all other parameters (Throttle position, Engine Knock, O2 sensor, Batt V) are within comparable levels. I belive this was caused by the extra turbulance created becasue the hole in the airbox with the black rubber mount is 50mm dia. And the BA flexi pipe is 80mm. This creates a sharp bend with no radius. Hence turbulence and low flow, this is probabily also the bottleneck. I have since removed the black rubber mount and inserted a piece of PVC (80mm dia) between the flexi pipe. It extends into the airbox in much the same way as the EF one does. I will post results when I get the chance to take more measurements. For comparison the engine draws 20 inches Hg at idle.

Hey that's pretty cool. You should test a heap of intakes out for us FM'ers.

Update: With the 80mm pipe. It is now approximately 0.75 Inch Hg Making it better than the original intake. And I can feel the power increase now.
Note that this testing was done when it was approximately 5 degrees warmer than previously. Also the pipe into the airbox has no bellmouth, I will add one and re-test to see how it goes. All this testing has been done with the standard air filter which has now done approx 25000 K's. At the end I will try a K&N and see if it makes a difference.

Confused. You mean the BA intake with 80mm pipe??
Anyways, this is pretty cool. Woul be awesome to see how a mandrel bent one goes... |

I mean the 80mm piece of PVC that I have now put in place of the black rubber mount on the back of the airbox.

Bellmouth should make a big diff. You gonna just heat up and curve out the PVC, or use one out of a factory airbox?

I'll just heat and curve the PVC. Going to paint it black first and silicone it into the airbox. Once I bellmouth the pipe I won't be able to get it out again.
The factory one is only 50mm dia and is integrated into the black rubber mount. It's interesting to note that 0.75 Inch Hg is only 2.54 Kpa or 2.53% restriction when compared to 100% vaccum. So overall gains from a filter or further upgrades should be minimal.

i have an ef, i have used the passanger side hole in the bumper to force air while driving in to a 2.5" pipe, doing a 90 deg bend up direct to the air box. yes it is through the pannel below the air box,
it can not be seen, untill you remove the lid from the air box. increase of air flow and better proformace is noticable, cheap and effetive Vehicals with ABS may have issues. i dont know i dont have ABS.

As far as airbox designs go, it really isn't that great a restriction in the E-Series. A bigger CAI is really all that's needed for most people.

i have done the mod u talk about paul in my ef futura and mine does have abs u just gotta use a slightly smaller dia. pipe and u gotta have really bendy hands to be able to make it fit. I've noticed f**k all power difference as most cai mods are crap anyway but it does make the airbox seem cooler than before which must be good

Updated with a pic. I have since painted the PVC bit black. Amazingly this was a standard bunnings pipe fitting, fitted EXACTLY no cutting the airbox or anything.
Yeah like I mentioned 10 inches of water is crap all but have noticed a small increase in power. I would say most of it came from the removal of the 50mm black mount at the rear of the airbox so any intake mod should start there. People modifying intakes should take note that at first I made it worse! Have you checked the restriction of your intake?? Total cost has been $60.
