Would this intake have any advantages over the normal EL style intake?
Extractors have a SS heat shield (FM group buy), well at least its coming in the post. |

has its good and bad sides
: good over a STOCK el intake is that the pipe doesnt get smaller next to the air box (better flow) : good that it doesnt have a u bolt in the piping (bad for flow) : good that it is somthing different and looks cool : bad the piping is all metal (absorbs more heat increasing intake temp) : bad piping is next to exhust (one reson the air box was designed on the other side) regardless of heat shield it should be still hotter over that side of the engine bay : bad COST it would be worth quite a bit my 2 cents dont bother i put in a BA box and flexi tube fit in with just a little hammering and some glue for the piping should fit in urs up to you though but dont expect a huge increase in power

one other bad point is having to relocate the battery..looks cool though, although it does leave the passenger side a bit plain

I could make the pipes out of plastic I have now, and fab up the air box out of some sheets I have my 2 cents dont bother i put in a BA box and flexi tube fit in with just a little hammering and some glue for the piping should fit in urs i'm not a newbie buddy. up to you though but dont expect a huge increase in power I would prefer responses from those familiar with this setup, not an answer full of hypotheticals. FORDom wrote: one other bad point is having to relocate the battery..looks cool though, although it does leave the passenger side a bit plain Piece of piss to relocate the bat, I've already got a run of 0g thru the car, all I need is a battery box. I noticed the rather barren passenger side also, but this particular engine bay is also missing the washer bottle. It's also possible to relocate the bat to that side.... Though much easier to go to the boot. I'm more interested to know whether its a wank mod or if its actually beneficial. |

only reason i would do such a setup is if i was building a turbo setup.
n/a you have many options with the std BBM. -brake duct > bottom of airbox feed -territory j-bend>flexy>airbox -one of those cool acron plastics airboxes (im planning on buying one soon) -or go more custom thinking outa box, im currently waiting on getting my BBM back from welding, it just got the center part spun around so the t/b is facing the other way, requires fidling with throttle cables, but custom is never easy. |

Not interested in coolness
: bad the piping is all metal (absorbs more heat increasing intake temp) I dont get it, why would you even bother getting an intake if you dont care how cool the air is coming into it???

uhm
YOU ASKED WETHER IT WOULD HAVE ANY ADVANTAGES OVER A STOCK INTAKE YOU DID NOT SAY YOUR WAS NOT STOCK reagard less LESS BENDS DOES = BETTER FLOW HAVE YOU ACTUALLY MEASURED THE DIFFERENT INTAKE TEMP BETWEEN PLASTIC PIPE AND METAL OHHH AND FOR THE NORMAL PERSON IT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE, UNLESS YOU INFORMED US OTHERWISE WHICH YOU DIDNT if you said that you had all the materials to make it up it mightve been different HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU THINK ARE GOING TO BE FAMILIAR WITH THAT SETUP AND EVEN THEN SPECIFY WHO U WANT ANSWERS FROM *******

Yeh i've currently got the lower intake up to the box mod happening. I've always wanted to switch the t'b around after I saw it done just after I signed up here many moons ago, but I'd always assumed the cost would be massive, though I'll have a crack at if I ever get around to getting a spare manifold. GeZza200 wrote: Not interested in coolness : bad the piping is all metal (absorbs more heat increasing intake temp) I dont get it, why would you even bother getting an intake if you dont care how cool the air is coming into it??? I meant coolness as in looks. Like i said, whilst the metal may heat up more it doesnt really affect the intake temps as the air passes to quickly to absorb any of the heat. djcustomcomputing wrote: uhm YOU ASKED WETHER IT WOULD HAVE ANY ADVANTAGES OVER A STOCK INTAKE YOU DID NOT SAY YOUR WAS NOT STOCK reagard less LESS BENDS DOES = BETTER FLOW HAVE YOU ACTUALLY MEASURED THE DIFFERENT INTAKE TEMP BETWEEN PLASTIC PIPE AND METAL OHHH AND FOR THE NORMAL PERSON IT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE, UNLESS YOU INFORMED US OTHERWISE WHICH YOU DIDNT if you said that you had all the materials to make it up it mightve been different HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU THINK ARE GOING TO BE FAMILIAR WITH THAT SETUP AND EVEN THEN SPECIFY WHO U WANT ANSWERS FROM ******* Wahh have a elsewhere. I said EL style intake didnt I? I didnt ask what you'd recommend me do, or any s**t other than WHATS GOOD ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC INTAKE. |

chill out mate, i dont have that intake myself but i have a complete intake done which works well. I think maybe if that boxed bit would some sort of plastic or fibreglass it would be much better. The heat from your extractors would be the only downer for that intake setup though. Any reason why you dont want to go with the 3" bent pipe back into the standard intake box??

You think I'm the one thats grumpy??
You didnt recommend s**t related to my question! The plastic vs metal debate has been done before. I asked a question about this intake setup? Maybe you cant read?? I said it again just before too, in bold for ya in case you missed it, which you did again! Go back to your GayU already. |

djcustomcomputing wrote: i told you what is good and bad about it I THINK YOUR THE ONE WHO CANT READ Chillout brosef. I want info specific to this setup, not HYPOTHETICALS. anyway Only major downside I can see would be the heat soak from extractors, and what I would like to know is, does anyone know whether the gains offset the costs of this particular intake. |

I dont know what gains your going to have but one thing il give you is good work for thinking outside of the box!
As for the CAI becoming HAI that can be avoided. - inside the heat shield you can spray some formula that absorbs heat or apply a special tape that does the same job - fabricate a 4" pipe for the 3" to sit inside + the air flow will be so fast that it wont even become that hot If you think this is a good idea you can fabricate another airbox (the same as the one you made) but for the other side and have the same thing going on but have the 3" go into the original 3" if you get what i mean...all for some extra CA that wont be effected by the extractors.. |
