Ok, the air goes from the thing in the green box, the air intake snorkel, to the lower part of the air filter box (the black box on the right), sometimes they will have a second snorkel (in the car of the F6's it is in front of the lower half of the air filter box, some people do custom ones, through the bottom of the box through the sheet metal and to the cavity behind the front bar).
From there the air travels through the filter which sits between the two halfs of the air filter box, up the the top lid of the air filter box. In an NA engine it then travels from there to the throttle body (silver peice center of the inlet manifold - that curly snail looking thing on the left and a bit above of the snorkel and air filter box), through the inlet manifold and into the engine. In a setup like the picture the air travels over the rocker cover and to the front of the turbo (sitting on the left side of the engine under that heatshield), it goes through the turbo, and is forced through another pipe to the front of the car, where behind the front bar is an intercooler, it goes through the intercooler and the airs temperature cools down, out the other side of the intercooler (in the case of the XR6T the pipe loops back over the intercooler) and back up through the second black pipe you see in the picture, over the rocker cover and into the throttle body and then just like as before, through the inlet manifold and into the engine. |

The red line the the travel of the air to the turbo, the green line is the non visable pipes to the intercooler and the air through the cooler, the blue is the air traveling after the cooler and into the engine...

hey mate, we all started knowing nothing too, without this site, I'd have no idea too. One thing that really helped me was buying and reading the gregories manual for an EA, very informative. Also, when I was about your age, I read this article: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/engine.htm Gives you a good introduction and starter and i'd suggest understanding this before trying to understanding turbo theory. Ask as many questions as you want here and you'll get a good answer.

good stuff, just think of the snorkel as a mouth on a human, cars need air to burn with fuel so it uses the snorkel to 'breathe'.
